Sally Drabing Obituary

Sally J. Drabing was born in Borger, Texas tot he union of Mr. F.M. (Steve) Stevenson and Mary E. (Betty) Hinderliter. The Stevensons moved throughout Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma while Mr. Stevenson worked for Phillips Petroleum. The family settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 1943 when Mr. Stevenson volunteered to join the U.S. Navy during WWII. Sally graduated from Central High School in Tulsa and then entered the University of Colorado at Boulder, graduating with a B.A. degree in 1957. She is a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. Sally then worked as a secretary and later as a reservation agent for United Airlines. She was accepted into stewardess training by Pan American Airlines in Miami, Florida. After training, Sally was stationed in New York City with her assignments being to South American routes. Sally married John H. Drabing on August 29, 1958, in Littleton, Colorado. They then lived in Kirksville, Missouri until June 1961, when John graduated from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following a one ;year internship for John in Tulsa, they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado. They then moved to Colorado springs in 1964 and lived there tot he present except for John's orthopedic residency in Columbus, Ohio. Sally is survived by her husband, Dr. John Drabing and their four children: Jeff, Diane, Mike, and Kirk, all living in Colorado. She is survived by three grandchildren: Hadyn, Shane and Abigail, from Mike's marriage to Taren; her father, F.M. Stevenson survives. Her mother, Betty, predeceased her in 1991. Sally's brother, C. Richard Stevenson survives. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews survive her. Sally enjoyed her full time job as a wife, mother and grandmother. She also enjoyed travel in the U.S. and many foreign countries. Reading and gardening were favorite pastimes. Sally was active in the Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District as a result of farming/ranching interests in the Fountain area. Sally fought a courageous battle against cancer for the last six years. At her request cremation has taken place and her ashes will be scattered in the mountains. No services will be held. She requested that any charitable donations be given in her name to fund the new Senior Care Clinic being established by the Colorado Springs Osteopathic Foundation, 15 W. Cimarron, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. Plans for a Celebration of Life event are pending.

Please accept my deepest sympathy for the loss of your wife and mother. I enjoyed working with Sally to repair damages to the farm as a result of the 1999 flood and other issues that the Farm Service Agency was able to help with.
