SAMUEL FERGUSON Obituary

Samuel Thomas Ferguson passed away on October 21, 2008. Samuel, or "Buzz", as he was often known to his family and friends, will be united with his wife of over 50 years, Ruth Marie Ferguson, who passed away on March 18, 2008. Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson are survived by their four children, James Ferguson, Kathy Graves, Thomas Ferguson and Ruthanne Hammond. In addition, their eleven grandchildren will miss both their "Grandpa" and "Nana" Ferguson. Samuel was born on October 18, 1935, in Philadelphia, PA to James and Dorothy Ferguson as the first of two children. His younger sister, Dorothy, is happily married and still living in the Philadelphia area. Sam received a B.S. Degree in Mathematics from LaSalle College and a M.S. Degree in Physics from Drexel University, both in Philadelphia. Sam had a very distinguished career as a computer systems' analyst developing and monitoring the military radar defense systems that protect our country. Buzz and Ruth were married on June 22, 1957 and shared a long, loving relationship for over 50 years. The family moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 1968 where Buzz and Ruth raised their four children. With Sam's retirement, they moved to Fort Collins, CO in 2002. In the summer of 2007, Sam and Ruth celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with a large gathering of family and friends. All eleven grandchildren were in attendance: Lisa, David, Michael, James, Joseph, Nicole, Boyd, Drake, Addie, Natalie and Maclean. In addition, Sam got to re-unite with his life-long friend, Bill McCready just this year. Buzz enjoyed reading, computer games, chess, bridge and being with family. Though an introvert at heart, he got the nickname "Buzz" as a child for constantly talking like a buzzing bee. Buzz had a good sense of humor and his grandchildren will remember him for his great imitation of Astronaut Buzz Aldridge (Tim Allen) in the cartoon Toy Story: "To Infinity and Beyond!" A private family service will be held. A Celebration of both Buzz and Ruth's lives will be held next summer with the entire family. Ruthanne, Kathy, Tom and Jim- May God bless you all during this difficult year of loss. Buzz and Ruth will both be missed. I, like the Naugles, remember all the good times we had in the old 'hood on Osgood Rd - and it usually makes me laugh! Love always, Jenny

Ruthanne, Kathy, Tom, and Jim, your parents were some of the best friends we ever had, and although we didn't talk often, we'll miss them both, just knowing that they're not with us in this world. I know they're together somewhere in a wonderful other-world though. As long as we live, those memories of walking down Osgood Road on snowy Friday nights to play cards or pingpong or sing along with the guitar or just to sit and sip a rum and coke while all of you kids ran up and down the stairs playing whatever, those memories will keep Ruth and Buzz alive in our hearts. Love to all of you. Charlette and Bruce Hill

I had the pleasure of working with Buzz for over 20 years. He was an excellant employee and Buzz and Ruth were good friends. I was lucky to be able to bring Buzz on board at SAIC.
