Samuel Grossman Obituary

Samuel Grossman
Sam Grossman, 90, a life-citizen of Allentown save for several creative years in New York City in as a young adult, passed away peacefully Wednesday in the company of his beloved family. Born on July 27, 1923, he was a graduate of the then-Allentown High School. Extraordinary talents for life friendships and endeavors began early. As a student, he was noted for his creative ability in writing, and he wrote short stories and had a play produced at Harrison Morton JHS. In subsequent years, he developed a business with his brother in non-ferrous and precious metals salvage and export, which exported nationally as well as throughout Europe and Asia. Sam was admired by both friends and family alike and was noted for the deep quality of all his new and lifetime relationships throughout his ninety years. As part of commitment to his home city, he served for many years in his retirement for the Agency for Aging, and was a Governors appointee to the board of the Allentown State Hospital. He was also on the board of the Vitalistic Therapeutic Center and Charter School for 38 years. Most recently, he was active at the local Senior Center where he continued to make new friends. Survivors: Sam is survived by his wife, Naomi (Hussey); and his daughter, Leah Ruth, both of Allentown; his son, Seth, daughter-in-law Lisa, and grandson, Aiden Saunders, all of Hollywood, FL. He is additionally survived by his sister, Shirley; and brother, Ralph, both of Allentown; sister, Faye Slowik, of Yardley, PA; his nephews, Bennett and Leon, both of Allentown; and niece, Rebecca of Denver, CO. Services: Today, 1 p.m., Bachman, Kulik, Reinsmith Funeral Home, 17th and Hamilton Streets, Allentown. Interment in Agudas Achim Cemetery, Whitehall.

Harley Selkregg and I were Sam's friends. Harley especially got together with Sam for breakfast discussions of politics and culture. We were both so sorry to hear of Sam's death and want to extend our condolences to the Naomi and his family.

I'm so sorry to see of Sam's passing. You have my deep condolences. I have nothing but good, warm memories all of my life of having the Grossmans in my life. Ralph, Sam, Tarzan...were all good childhood friends of my father's and like family to me. Sadly, we're watching the passing of a wonderful generation. May you have the healing by all the good memories and the balm of God's Spirit upon you. God bless you all.
