Samuel Heistman Obituary

Samuel Walter Barnhart Heistman went to be with the Lord. He was born in Carthage New York on April 4 1946. He was baptized at St. Henry's Catholic Church in Natural Bridge NY.

As a boy he had a paper route. He attended North Syracuse High School, in Syracuse NY. He played football and was a good student. He joined the Navy as a meteorologist, and traveled with the U.S.S. Chicago and served in the Honor Guard at JFK's funeral.

After leaving the Navy he married Barbara Chatterton and had two children Ted and Laura, and attended Phoenix College and received an associate degree in Business Administration.

In the 1970's he was a top salesman for Tremco corporation, a commercial roofing supply company. In 1982 he purchased his own roofing company, Southern Tier Maintenance, in Greene, New York. He contracted large jobs, with such companies as Toshiba, General Electric, and many hospitals, schools and colleges, in southern NY.

In 1995 he sold his business and retired from contracting. He invested in several pharmaceutical companies and thus aided in the development of new drugs and treatments for serious diseases such as cancer and HIV. He later worked for Skyway Roofing, as an estimator which was the aspect of the roofing business he enjoyed most.

He was an avid sports fan and outdoors man. He enjoyed, boating, hunting and fishing and most of all playing golf, once scoring a hole in one, in Dorado Golf course in Tucson, Arizona.

He will be remembered as a loving Father and family man with a huge heart and a lively sense of humor.

He is survived by His mother Sylvia Pihl and Step-father Don Pihl loving wife of 24 years Sandy Heistman, his Ex Wife Barbara Chatterton Fry, Children Ted Heistman, Laura Oliver, Julie White-Eklund , Sue Robinson, Debbie White. Siblings, Dick Heistman, Sandy Shranz, Sandy Beal, Penny Crocker, Kenneth Barnhart, Elita Pendergrass, Lisa Connors. Grand Children: Quinn Kupec, Morgan Heistman, Emma Robinson, and Justin Oliver and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

There will be a memorial service held Tuesday, February 4th, 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs.
