Samuel Walter Obituary

Samuel R. Walter passed away on Friday, May 29, 2009, after a short illness. He was born to Wayne and Angel Walter in Kearney, NE, on January 21, 1946 and spent most of his formative years in Pueblo, CO. He served 4½ years in the U.S. Air Force before starting his college career at the University of Northern Colorado where he earned a B.S. in mathematics. He then taught high school in Morenci, AZ, for 3 years before returning to Colorado to obtain an M.A. in mathematics from Colorado State University. He spent his professional career working for several companies and retired from Quantum Inc as a senior data base administrator in 2008. Sam is survived by his wife, Anita, his son, Christopher (Renae), his daughter, Lindsey (Shawn), and grandsons Joshua and Silas. Sam loved spending time at the cabin, riding dirt bikes and teaching others how to ride. At home, he could be found in his shop building everything from entertainment centers to cradles. Sam will be greatly missed by his brothers, Wayne David (Betty), Jim, Charles (Linda), and Anthony and his sisters (in-law) Elaine, Marilynn and Lois, as well as a host of family and friends. A viewing will be held on Monday, June 1, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and the funeral will be conducted on Tuesday, June 2, at 10:00 a.m. Both services will take place at St. Patrick’s Church, 6455 Brook Park Drive. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in Sam’s name. Sam leaves a hole in the hearts of his family, friends and all who knew and loved him.

I was so sorry to hear of Sam's passing. I have so many memories that go beyond the time we spent at work … poker nights, shop projects or the occasional times we would stop for a beer after work. I was truly fortunate to have such a man as a co-worker, mentor and friend. Please accept my deepest sympathy. My thoughts are with you all.

I will never forget Sam. His sense of humor still makes me smile when I recall his wonderful wit. He was a good friend -- the type of friend who you could really talk to about anything. His passing does leave a hole in my heart, but I am glad that I got to be a part of Sam's life and he a part of mine. I will remember those good times as they will always be with us.

Sam and 3 other young men became "brothers" to my three sisters and me when we were all stationed at Hahn Air Force in West Germany in 1966. I was 5 years old then and he was the kindest, most patient "brother" a girl could ever have. We have treasured the memories we shared over the years and know that Sam will always be with us. I will greatly miss my brother-of-the-heart.

My sympathy to Sam's family. I worked with Sam at TRW and Litton and remember him as a kind co-worker always eager to help me learn more about my job. He was an inspiration to me to expand my education and keep learning more. I will keep Sam in my prayers.
