Sharlotte Smith Obituary

Smith
Sharlotte O. Smith
September 23, 1916 - December 15, 2017
Sharlotte O. Smith, 101, our beautiful mother, grandmother and friend went to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, December 15, 2017. She was born on September 23, 1916, in Hoxie, Kansas, one of 10 children born to Frank and Alice (Gilbert) Jackson. Preceding her in death were her loving husband, Clarence Douglas Smith, and her son, Waylon Riley.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a son, Clarence DeWayne "Wayne" Smith of Rush, CO, daughters, Lutrecia "Pat" (Kenny, deceased) Jahn of Canon City, CO, JoEtta (Bruce) Wilkerson of Colorado Springs, CO, Tamra "Tammy" (Mark) Briody of Colorado Springs, CO; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 18 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Sharlotte and Clarence were married on Thanksgiving Day, November 27, 1947, in Raton, New Mexico. He was the love of her life and they enjoyed 67 years of marriage.
Sharlotte was a very energetic and hard-working person, holding a wide variety of positions during her lifetime. Besides wife and mother, she worked as a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone in the 1940's. After World War II she worked for a company in the old Aircraft Mechanics building making packaged cake decorations. She also worked as a silk finisher for Swiss Cleaners and Cliff's Cleaners. For a period of time she worked at Pearl Laundry in downtown Colorado Springs. From her home Sharlotte groomed pets, took in washing and ironing, cared for children and was a foster parent. In her spare time she sold Avon and Shaklee products door to door. The company from which she retired was Ampex after being a loyal employee for 16 years.
She had many hobbies over the years including camping, sewing, needlework, crocheting, bowling and watching baseball. But most important to her was the quality time she spent with her family.
Sharlotte loved the Lord and had a strong Baptist background.
She touched so many hearts in her 101 years and she will be greatly missed and forever loved.
Viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m. with service at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2017, at Shrine of Remembrance "America the Beautiful" Chapel, 1730 East Fountain Boulevard, Colorado Springs, with the interment to follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 3825 Airport Road. The reception will be held at the Satellite Hotel, 411 Lakewood Circle.

Sending love and condolences to your family as you grieve but also celebrate a fascinating life who carried on for 101 years - to produce such incredible heirs and to leave a legacy that she set before them of hard work and love.... may your family rest in knowing that such a special lady in your family is touching people who have never had the privilege of meeting her....

My precious Aunt Sharlotte was such a beautiful person. She was so easy to love. She was my Dad's sister, and the last one of his siblings left before her demise. I am so honored to have had her in my life!
