Sharon Wang Obituary

Early this summer, Sharon Wang of 4110 Dunbarton, Colorado Springs died of complications from lung cancer. Born (1950) in Chicago, she graduated from the University of Chicago Laboratory School and then spent 2 years attending classes and learning Chinese in Taiwan. Over the next 10 years, she achieved certification in and taught several innovative massage, body work, and other theraputic techniques, working at the Esalen and Radix Institutes, the Institute for Psychotherapy in Chicago, and completing a BA in Psychology from Northeastern Illinois University. Sharon continued to expand her expertise in body work and the mind/body connection, teaching Reiki, Feldenkrais, Tragger, and other bodywork techniques in workshops in Chicago and around the country as well as pursuing graduate studies in psychology. After a two-year trip around the world including studying in India, she completed an MA in Early Childhood Education at Sonoma State University in California and moved to Colorado Springs. She worked in early childhood education until she began caring for her father full time until his death. For seven years, Sharon provided the highest quality of life possible for him and facilitated his peaceful death at home. Sharon will be remembered by her loved ones, friends, and clients as one of the most intelligent, perceptive, intuitive, empathic, emotionally knowledgeable people they have ever known. Her amazing healing powers as a body worker are only rivaled by her keen insight into human interactions. She counseled and helped many friends and family members and gave of herself selflessly without being asked. Sharon's love of life and enthusiasm was contagious inspired those around her. An intensely spiritual person, Sharon pursued inner knowledge, meaning, and truth passionately throughout her life. Sharon is survived by her loving husband, Ralph Matson, her mother, Lonny Myers, MD, four siblings (Susan, Sheila, Sherwood, and Sandra) and seven nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held later this summer.
