Sherman Wagner Obituary

Sherman J. Wagner September 24, 1921 -October 19, 2005 Sherman J. Wagner returned to his Heavenly Father October 19, 2005. He was 84. Sherman was born September 24, 1921 in Grand Junction, CO to Menzo Dewey and Frances Christiana Wagner. He was second of six children in the family as follows: Hazel Pahler, Sherman, Dorothy (Ted) Ferguson, Shirley Lucas, Richard (Joy), and Raymond. He was married to Dorothy Cavendar March 12, 1946. They were later sealed in the LDS Manti Temple. Their children are Frances Jane (Carl) Dennis, Susan Lynn (Steven) Alexander, Judith Anne (Garth) Heer, and Bruce Lynn Brunson. Sherman was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, sister Hazel, brother Raymond and two grandchildren. He is survived by his loving step-mother Helen Wagner; sisters Dorothy and Shirley; brother Richard; his children; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; many friends and countless loving children who call him "Grand-dad". Sherman was High School State wrestling champion, heavy weight division, three years running and graduated from Grand Junction High School. He performed distinguished military services through World War II and is a decorated Veteran of that war. He was instrumental in developing and coaching Pee Wee Wrestling in the Grand Valley. He worked the Colorado/Utah uranium mines in the early days after the war, contributing to the development of the nation's nuclear power and defense. He was a mogul of the fence building industry in the Grand Valley for over 45 years with finished projects in four states. He enjoyed the out doors and loved the mountains, valleys and natural beauty of the Western Slope. He magnified his many callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and is a true missionary to the present. The family wishes to express gratitude to our angel Dru Fullmer for her loving care and to Hospice. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00am, Friday October 21, 2005 in the LDS Grand Junction Fifth Ward Chapel at 2542 G Road with a viewing one hour before the services and interment at Crown Point Cemetery following the services. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Sherman's honor to the LDS Humanitarian Fund or the LDS Perpetual Education Fund at 2565 Ranch Road, Grand Junction, CO 81505. Funeral services have been entrusted to Martin Mortuary.
