Sherry Ekerholm Obituary

Steve, I will always feel fortunate to have known and worked with both you and Sherry. She always had a smile and a kind, helpful word for people....a great lady.

Dear Steve and family -
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Sherry was the most gracious tender hearted person and a blessing to all who ever had the privilege of knowing her. The wonderful memories you all hold are a testament of the wonderful life she lead. These memories will carry her spirit with all of us forever!

We were so sorry to hear about Sherry's passing. While my contact with her was limited, I still remember fondly the time you hosted the entire UCD Records staff at your home, and the graciousness of both you and Sherry as our hosts.

Dear Steve and Family,
We were so sad to hear of Sherry's death. I can remember many Hunke family gatherings where we cousins would talk, laugh and play together. Sherry was always sweet and kind. I have fond memories of her. Our most sincere condolences.

Being at Sherry's memorial service today reminded me of a time when she and I shared her most intimate thoughts and goals. She wanted to make a big career decision and she wasn't sure about joining the Student Success Center during that time of reorganization. As a counseling intern I helped her decide by working with her through hypnosis. Sherry was so open about her desire to help as many students as she could that, in the end, her decision to join the SSC was an easy one. I know she never regretted that career move and the Student Success Center certainly benefited from her presence - in every way. Her desire to help never wavered and she always maintained her positive and professional attitude. She taught me about grace and I am so thankful to have known her and to have counted her as my friend. Love to you all-

Katie, Steve and family, when I saw Katie after returning to UCCS, I knew whose beautiful daughter she was. I now have the privilege of working across the hall with another Ekerholm. I was looking at Sherry's pictures and they are wonderful. A great way to celebrate her life. I always thought of her as a great lady and am glad I got to see her before she retired from UCCS. I am so sorry for your loss. She is and was a truly beautiful person inside and out.

Sherry's light remains. What a remarkable person! Thoughts of Sherry always bring memories of laughter, her immense love for her family, her unflinching commitment to excellence, and her pit bull determination! Just a few weeks ago, Sherry read a children's book to three of us who were visiting; it was about pond bugs becoming dragonflies and was a book she was giving each of her grandchildren - and she read to us!
