Shirley Ann Stokes Obituary

Shirley Ann (Miller) Stokes, 81, was surrounded by her loving family when she passed away May 22, 2017. She was born Sept. 4, 1935, in Cheyenne Wells, CO to Clifford and Eva Miller. Shirley grew up in Granby and Aurora, CO and graduated from Aurora High School where she received the 'Miss Spirit' award in 1953. She attended Colorado State Teachers College (UNC today) in Greeley, CO. In 1955, she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Stokes on a blind date. They were married Sept. 4th, 1955, her 20th birthday. Shirley and Bob had five children. She carried on that 'spirit' with the passion and love she had for her family.

Shirley was a loving Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great-grandma, Mother-in-law and loyal sports fan to so many. She rarely missed her grandchildren's games, practices, track meets, school plays, musical recitals, graduations, etc. She had that special touch or word of encouragement in wins or losses, achievements or failures, not only to her own family but those who gravitated to hear something comforting and positive from her. She could comfort you like only Grandma Shirley could. She was oh so gentle and yet as tough as they come. She and Bob approached every holiday with vigor and excitement as if it was their first. Everything and everyone was made special by her attention to detail. No one was ever left out or forgotten. She was the matriarch of the Stokes family, not through power or sternness but through the gentle way she made everyone feel loved and welcome. She will always be remembered for her warm, caring heart along with her positive spirit, but most of all she will be remembered for her everlasting Passion and Love for her family.

Survivors include her loving husband of 62 years, Bob and their 5 children: son, Kirk and wife, Lisa of Denver, CO and their children, Sean, Connor, Ryan, and Connor; son, Kyle and wife, Diana of Los Alamos, NM and their children, Brittany, Brady, and Jessica and her husband, CJ and their children, Jaxon and Jeremy; daughter, Karen and husband, Jack Domme of Colorado Springs, CO, and their children, Simone, Kelsey, Monique, and Courtney; son, Kris and wife, Lisa of Colorado Springs, CO and their children, Foley and Jordan; daughter, Kelly and husband, Steve of Colorado Springs, CO and their children, Zach and Bailey.

There will be a family Celebration of Life and at a later date TBD there will be an Open House for all those who knew and loved her.
