Shirley Starcevich Obituary

Shirley Mae Starcevich, lifelong homemaker, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away suddenly December 17, 2013 at St. Francis Medical Center with family at her side.

She was born in Milaca, MN December 2, 1927 to Emil and Sadie (Bowerman) Peterson, the 3'd of six children. She graduated from Milaca HS in 1945. She worked at Milaca's hardware store during high school where she met the love of her life, John Starcevich. They eloped in February 1946.

John was in construction and they moved wherever the job took him. They lived in 8 different states and 7 towns in Colorado before settling in Boulder, CO in 1963. After John's death in 1982, Shirley moved back to Colorado Springs

where they had lived in the 1950s.

Wherever she lived she would make friends out of strangers. She loved astrology, playing bridge, bowling, bingo, puzzles, movies, playing Phase 10 with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, playing trivia, traveling, watching her beloved Broncos, Oreos and going to Cripple Creek whenever she could. She traveled to HI twice with her friend, Ellie, when both were in their 70s.

Shirley leaves behind to cherish her memory her 2 children, daughter, Judy (John) Scandura, Colorado Springs, and son John, Jr. (Robin) Starcevich, Aurora; grandchildren (Judy's children) Kelley (James) Delosh, Colorado Springs; and John (Jenny) Bigler, Woodstock, Il; (son John's children) John 'Trey'

(Megan) Starcevich III, Rocky Ford; and Melissa Starcevich Bates, Longmont; great-grandchildren Hannah, Hope and Hayleigh Delosh; Erin, Jack, AJ, luke and Cate Bigler; Trey's son Jeremiah, and Melissa's son Talan; sister-in-law Patricia Peterson as well as a host of wonderful nieces, nephews,

family, friends and her extended family Stephen (Kenda, Hannah, Kevyn, and Charlie) Scandura and

Daniel Scandura, her son-in-law's sons.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; her brothers Clifford, Bud, Kenny and

Dale Peterson; and her sister Donna Peterson.

A Celebration of her life will be held at Memorial Gardens Cemetery and Funeral Home, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs on January 9, 2014 at 2pm.

The family requests that attendees wear their favorite Broncos attire. Inurnment will take place on January 10, 2014 in Boulder, CO.

In lieu of flowers, you may donate to her granddaughter Melissa's mounting medical expenses as she courageously battles stage 3b cervical cancer at any ENT FCU, c/o Melissa Starcevich Bates Memorial fund.
