Siegfried "Steve" Ernst Sommer, age 83, of Colorado Springs, CO died 01/22/2023 peacefully at his home under the care of his loving wife Mary.
Steve (also known as Siggi) born April 14, 1939 in Ebersdorf, Germany. Steve was married to Mary Sommer on May 16, 1981.
Steve was proud to serve in the US Army and had a military career that lasted 22 years. Retired on August 31, 1983, his final rank was MSG. He wanted to be closer to his children and grandchildren. They moved to Colorado Springs, CO in 2001.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family both near and afar. He was a loyal Minnesota Vikings fan and enjoyed baking and cooking German food, golfing, and traveling.
Steve is survived by his wife, Mary and his children, Sandra Ressler, Ray Sommer, Laura Williams and Steve Sommer. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and his sister Hannelore "Lori" Toman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oskar and Emma; sister, Irmgard Sommer.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church, 9 El Pomar Rd, 80906, 10:00am Friday Feb. 10, 2023, the burial will be at Pikes Peak National Cemetery, followed by a reception at Julie Penrose Hall in the St. Paul Catholic Church

Steve and I were Drill Sgt's Ft Knox Ky in the mid seventies we worked in the same Unit for 3 years .

The RAO is staffed by volunteers, all military retirees themselves, and our sole purpose is to provide assistance to any military retirees and surviving spouses/family members with anything related to their military service and/or benefits, in particular during difficult times such as this.
