Stanley Tremaine Obituary

Stanley A. Tremaine passed away on February 18, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was an inspiration to us all. He bravely fought terminal cancer. He was born on February 4, 1928 in Long Island, New York to loving parents, Harry and Alice Tremaine. Stanley was hooked on flying on his first airplane ride at Mitchell Field on Long Island, New York at the age of 12 which led to his military career flying T-6s and B-25s. Later, as a federal senior executive service civilian in Dayton Ohio, he led the early development of many future bomber, fighter, and cargo aircraft. Stanley twice received the Civilian Exceptional Service Medal, the highest award that can be bestowed upon a civilian member of the Department of Defense other than heroism in war. Stanley traveled the world and later settled in Colorado. In 1990, he decided to build homes. Building homes meant building new relationships inside the community. He also published a fictionalized book about his life experiences entitled "The Unholy Triad." Stanley owned a Cessna 172L Skyhawk and found that same love of flying with many cadets he helped learn to fly. Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Alice, and his beloved daughter, Jill and her son, Matthew. He is survived by his loving wife Diane; daughter Jan, his son-in-law James Office of Cincinnati, Ohio; son, Richard and daughter-in-law Heather of Temple Texas; and son Robert, and daughter-in-law Denise of San Deigo, CA; and 10 grandchildren. In Lieu of flowers, the family asks that any contributions be made instead to Pikes Peaks Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80903-5607.

Stan was a good friend. I had the privelage of maintaining his aircraft 42Q since his arrival in Colorado and enjoyed flying with him. His association with the United States Air Force Flight Training Center was a great benifit to all members and staff. His love of flying was contagious. He will be missed.
