Stephanie Kay Criss, 48, entered her heavenly home in her hometown of Colorado Springs after battling cancer for six years, followed by a short battle with COVID-19. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, attending K-8th grades there, graduated from Mitchell High School, then pursued a law enforcement career. She served with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office for nearly 24 years, retiring on her birthday just a few short weeks ago. She was a decorated Deputy attaining the rank of Sergeant. She embodied true grit, but also had equal amounts of compassion, charisma, and emphathy. Her list of accomplishments and awards are prodigious, culminating with the Medal of Valor. She was preceded in death by her father, Dario Garbiso, her grandparents, nephew Hunter Garbiso, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She is survived by her mother, Barbara Miskell, stepfather Ron Miskell; former husband, Johnny Criss, brothers Tim (Rochelle) Arvizo, Jeff (Breanne) Garbiso, Ron Jr. (Will) Miskell; stepsister Loretta Ayala; nephews Gavin, Lincoln, Logan Garbiso, Hudson Arvizo; and her most wonderful legacy, daughter Shaylie (Jesse) Schroeder. Her memorial service will be held on October 6, 11 AM, Immanuel Lutheran Church, 846 E. Pikes Peak Ave. 80903. There will be a private burial following the service. Request memorial contirbutions be made in Stephanie's name to Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her memory, love, infectious smile & silliness is forever in our hearts until we meet again.

It was a privilege to had been part of your care and your peaceful transition to our LORD JESUS loving arms. I am thankful for the godly and loving legacy that you had instilled in Shaylie. She had been part of our answered prayers to surround our son, Seth with godly and loving people. She was a blessing to Seth in Rampart High School and comforted and helped our son in school. Thank you for raising Shaylie to become a Proverbs 31 woman. We are blessed to have known her and had become part of our family in CHRIST. I look forward to seeing you soon my beloved sister, Stephanie. Thank you for being an amazing mom and for your service.
