Stephanie Markwood Obituary

Our beloved Stephanie Christine Markwood passed away as the result of sudden cardiac arrest on Dec. 28, 2013, at 3:58 PM in Colorado Springs. Born in Toledo, Ohio on Jan. 8, 1976, her family moved to Colorado Springs in Stephanie's teenage years.

As a receptionist at Companion Animal Clinic, she thoroughly enjoyed having the privilege of working with animals, which she adored. If asked, however, she would say her most fulfilling joy in any job was her time employed at a nursing home, caring for and providing company and comfort to the elderly.

Stephanie was super connected to the world outdoors in an almost spiritual way; nature was at her core, and she welcomed the challenges nature provides such as camping, rock climbing and mountain biking. Her happiness was always felt; however, it seemed to increase substantially when she was outdoors.

Stephanie is survived by her beloved mother, Linda K. Markwood; sister Valarie Sewell (Blane), their children Emalee, Steven, and Dylan (deceased); sister Misty Godfrey (Patrick), their children Alec and Tayler; her fiance, Charles Vanlandingham; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and an anxiously awaited nephew, Joseph, soon to be born to Alec and his girlfriend Kelsey.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 7, at 11:00 AM, with the viewing at 10:00 AM at Angelus Chapel, 1104 S. Circle Drive, (391-1918), with interment following at Evergreen Cemetery. A reception will be held immediately following at the Antlers Hilton, 4 S. Cascade; free parking is provided in the garage.

Stephanie radiated kindness, selflessness, understanding, love, and compassion; she had the most vibrant and beautiful soul. Words cannot express the sorrow and the empty places in the hearts of the hundreds of people who loved her. Stephanie was an organ donor; even in her passing, she still continues to give.

My dear sister, Linda. We are back in Iowa once again. The last two weeks with you and the girls have been a roller coaster for us all. We still can't believe that our beloved Stephanie is gone from our sight. She is of course in our hearts and you and the girls and their family are in our constant prayers. So many lives she touched and so many wonderful memories she has left us all with. It doesn't make it any easier but all the beautiful people and all the beautiful words that have been written are worth their weight in gold. She certainly has left a mark in this world and I chose to light an everlasting candle in her name. I know we will see her again, and oh my, will it be good. God makes everything good and His love, grace and support from His Holy Spirit was so very strong and all around you & me when ever we prayed for God to help us hang on. As we have said to each other before, God made us sisters...but love and grace made us best friends forever. Might not be twins but we are joined together at the heart and nothing or nobody can separate us. I love you for the joy you sent into this world through your beautiful daughter, Stephanie. I'm blessed to be a part of her world for almost 38 years. She will forever be, 37 years young!

As like so many others, I am still in a state of shock and disbelief. I worked with her for a while and can still see her smile. I wish there were something I could say to help you, her family, in this most difficult time. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers always.

My husband and I have known Stephanie as long as we have known her mom. We were so lucky to have been taken into the family like we were one of them. Stephanie's sweet smile would like up the room. We are so happy that she met a wonderful man and spent the last few years of her life happy, with him. Our unconditional love and support goes out to everybody who loved Steph. We all feel this loss.
