Stephen Dixon Obituary

May 3, 1956 - April 29, 2008. Dr. Stephen P. "Steve" Dixon, 51, passed away on April 29, 2008 in his Colorado Springs home. He was born on May 3, 1956 to William P. and Mary Jean (Fogarty) Dixon in Casper, Wyoming; he was one of 8 children. Dr. Dixon received his undergraduate degree from Regis College in Denver before continuing on at Bradley University in Illinois for his Masters and then Georgia State University for his PhD in Clinical Psychology. After leaving college he pursued a clinical career and maintained a private family practice. He was also a published author. Of his many accomplishments, Steve always said that his children were his greatest. Steve was a devoted father who made attending his children's extracurricular activities and supporting their pursuits his highest priority. He was seen at every hockey game, swim meet, recital and play and his children will always remember him as their biggest fan. He achieved a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and was a member of the American Psychological Association and the Knights of Columbus. Steve was an avid Colorado sports enthusiast, loved golfing, and had recently undertaken teaching himself how to ice skate. He was a devoted Catholic, dedicated to serving those around him and gave back to his community through his practice and time. His life inspired and touched all around him. Steve leaves behind three daughters: ENS Erin M. Dixon, US Coast Guard, Mrs. Emily J. Dixon (husband Kristopher Peterson) and Margaret "Molly" J. Dixon; son William "Billy" M. Dixon; mother Mary Jean Dixon; five brothers: William T. (wife Annabel), John F. (wife Helen), Dennis J. (wife Olivia), Timothy J. and Thomas M. (wife Patti) Dixon; sister Anne M. Dixon and numerous extended family members, colleagues, patients and friends. His father Hon. William P. Dixon and sister Mary M. Dixon preceded him in death. Steve's two favorite charities are the American Diabetes Association and Colorado Right to Life. A visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m., both on Monday, May 5, 2008 with a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, all happening at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 6455 Brook Park Drive.

Dear Dixon Family,

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Dixon while he was at CHN. He enriched everyone who knew him. He inspired others to work compassionately for their clients and to think critically about their own beliefs. I will remember him for his humor and warmth. I hope that you will find comfort in your faith during this difficult time. God bless you.

Dearest Dixon Family, We are so saddened to hear of Steve's passing. In the few years we came to know him, at hockey games and on those fun hockey trips, we were delighted with his engaging conversation and lively personality. His passion and love for his kids was evident from the day we met him, and we are grateful for our memories of him. Sending our love, The Burnham Family
