Stephen Mechling Obituary

Stephen William Mechling, resident of Colorado Springs and formerly of Rapid City, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at the age of 56.

Steve earned multiple college degrees during his lifetime, including a Bachelor of Arts in Broadcast Journalism and a Masters in Space Systems Management. After completing his studies as a ROTC student at the University of Nebraska, Steve served as a Communications-Electronics Staff Officer and Platoon Leader in the Signal Corps of the United States Army. As a civilian, Steve held the following positions in telecommunications: systems analyst, project manager, technical writer and designer of patents.

Steve is survived by his wife, Sue; his son, Jason; and two nephews, Will Mechling and Nico Duca.

Steve's parents, John William Mechling and Patricia Lavier Mechling, as well as Steve's younger sister, Patty Lynn Mechling passed away prior to Steve.

Steve's family and friends take solace in their fond memories of him as a friendly and enthusiastic conversationalist who enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles, discussing current events and relaxing alongside his friends, family and favorite dogs (Daisy and Princess).



Cremation has taken place and The Springs Funeral Services will host Steve's local Memorial Service at 1:30PM, Saturday, September 14, 2013 in their chapel at 3115 E. Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, CO 80909.

Burial will follow at a later date at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
