Stern Feinberg Obituary

Stern Feinberg Jr. died Monday, July 26, 2010 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Born in Texarkana, Arkansas, May 31, 1941 to Jane Braunig Feinberg and Stern Feinberg Sr., he was a graduate of Vanderbilt University and Cornell University's School of Hotel Administration. He entered the family's hotel business and was the managing partner of the Best Western Sandy Shores in Corpus Christi, Texas, for 27 years. In 2000, Stern started a second career and packed his rock climbing equipment to head for the mountains. From his home in Colorado Springs, known to all as base camp, the next ten years were best described by his business card "Climbs Rocks - Picks Stocks". This moniker alluded to his personality and the fact that he never liked the label “retired. He worked just as hard these last years as he did in his former profession. The only difference, his new occupation was devoted to what he considered fun and involved climbing mountains, taking trips with his wife and researching stocks. He is survived by his wife, Miriam, who he met at Vanderbilt and married in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1964; his children Jeff and Dana Feinberg, Doug and Rhonda Feinberg, and Beth and Alan Charley all from Houston, Texas; grandchildren Zoe and Shelby Feinberg and Ben and Madison Charley; his mother Jane B. Feinberg, Texarkana, Texas; his brother Alan Feinberg, Frederick, Maryland; and brother-in-law Michael Schiff, Sugar Land, Texas. Stern was preceded in death by his father, Stern Sr., and sister, Jan Schiff. A private service is planned.

Miriam,

I met Stern at the Mayo Clinic when he shared a room with my dad. (Later, I met you too!) Talking with him was a breath of fresh air. He had such a wonderful spirit. He had a positive impact on my dad's life and mine. In body, he's gone, but in spirit, he remains. Best wishes to you and all of your family.

We have been associated with the FEINBERG family for the past 45 years and Stern was a close friend and we will miss him greatly. We knew his Father , his Mother, his Brother and Sister and many of his friends while living in Texarkana and Corpus Christi. May God bless his family and having been in Israel in June, I truly understand how important his background is and we truly treasure the memories.
