Dear Hia and Olivia,
We never met and this is a little awkward for me, but I really want to tell you how difficult it was for me to learn of Steve's passing. Because of that, I know, of course, how much more difficult it is for you. I'm glad that Steve had a network of friends, many of whom we shared, that could send this devastating news to all of us who cared about him. Having shared a life with Steve at one time, I know, as you do, the kind of person he was, and I don't need to expound on his special qualities and attributes that endeared him to so many. I can only tell you how very sorry I am for your loss, and how happy I am for the three of you for the bond that you forged these past years that I'm sure brought all of you much joy and many fun and exciting times. For Steve, I'm happy that he was doing something active and outdoorsy when the heart attack struck, and Olivia, though it had to be so hard on you, I'm glad he wasn't alone but with someone he loved. That will also be a comfort to you, that you were there with him and for him. To you both and to the rest of Steve's family, I send my deepest sympathy and sincerest condolences... Take care of yourselves.
Most sincerely,
Pat Carter
