STEVEN MICHAEL MILLIGAN
March 21, 1947 December 22, 2020
Steve passed away in Colorado Springs, CO on December 22, 2020 from prostate cancer. Steve was born on March 21, 1947 in Denver, CO to Carroll Stone Milligan and Virginia Waters Milligan. He was married to Christina Martinez on August 27, 1977. Steve earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado Boulder and graduate degrees from the University of Denver and the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. He retired from Pikes Peak Community College after many years as a Spanish teacher and a librarian. Steve will be remembered for many things but especially his wit and humor, and his strong political beliefs. He traveled to Mexico and Spain many times, and he especially enjoyed taking groups of students to Mexico. Steve was an active member of Springs Mountain Sangha Buddhist community.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Christina Martinez; his son Michael Milligan (Brynja Seagren) of Lakewood, CO; his brothers Terry Milligan (Ruth Jarles) of Canon City and Charles Milligan (Darlene) of Orrville, OH; and many nieces and nephews.
He touched many lives as a loving spouse and father, a teacher and librarian, a caring uncle, and a dedicated member of his Sangha.
A celebration of his life will be held on a future date after COVID restrictions ease. Donations may be made in his memory to Springs Mountain Sangha, P.O. Box 2613, Colorado Springs, CO 80903 or at https://www.smszen.org

I knew Steve (and Chris) as my neighbors for 30 years. Whenever I needed the help of a very tall person—to change a light bulb, reach a garage gutter, etc.—he'd come right over, as soon as he could. He would drive me to the car place so I could pick up my car. I remember Steve Milligan as a kind, helpful man—the best neighbor one could have.

Steve is one of the kindest and gently humorous people I have had the privilege of encountering on my journey here. I sat with him as a sangha member and spoke with him many times at Rico's and Wooglins after. He exemplifies the qualities of awakening and can never truly be gone as long as the kindness he shared with all of us still lives in our hearts.

Estebanico, the Martínez family will certainly feel the absence your passing has caused. Thank you for introducing me to life and culture of Colorado Springs over the years. I will always cherish the memory of our shared experiences at Vallejo’s, Howard’s and Wades. You were a perfect match for Christina, an interested uncle for my kids, and a caring friend for me. Te extrañaré mucho. Adiós Compadre! The RC
