Steven Reddick Obituary

There was only one Steve; a mountainous man with the soul of a child - mischievous and true. Born in Saint Joseph, Missouri on January 31,1946, he was raised by his loving father, Jay, and Granny Lois. Steve departed on June 10, 2010 at age 64. He leaves behind Kathy, his beloved wife of 38 years, and his stepmother, Joan. Steve attended Wasson High School and received his master's degree at the University of Colorado in Fort Collins. He began his 27-year teaching career in 1971 at Mitchell High School, moved to Palmer day school, and retired from Palmer Night School in 1999. He shared his passion for history with hundreds of students in classes titled the Middle Ages, The History of War, Current Issues, and American History. He had many interests and traveled the world to experience each one. Steve received two kidney transplants, the first in 1986 and the second in 2006. These gifts from two donor families gave Steve 22 extra years of life. Steve's many pursuits would have gone unfulfilled but for the help of caring nurses, hospital staff, doctors, and his relentless love for life and his wife, Kathy ... soul mates whose love carried them through the hard times. Stevie ... smiling, a little alarming, full of life and cheer, His playfulness drawing you near, nearer Just to knock you a little off balance to spring you Into the moment of life. Friends and family are invited to join us for a celebration of Steve's life - Saturday, June 26 from 2-4 p.m. at Cascade Park. Readings at 3 p.m. Please bring a favorite dessert and a lawn chair. Dress is casual. As a tribute to Steve, consider organ donation.

Stevie... I just found out you passed. You were my first history teacher and the one who inspired me to become one myself when I was young and the world was in front of me. In fact, I'm a professor of history now because of you. We may have lost touch over the years, but I can never, nor will I ever, forget how you made me fall in love with history and teaching. There's a little bit of Steve Reddick now in all of my own classes, so I just wanted you and Kathy to know that in that style that was so thoroughly and uniquely you, you will always live on Stevie.

I had Mr. Reddick for Current Issues at Palmer High School. I remember his classes always being so fun and actually entertaining. Years later I was privilaged to work with his wife Kathy at Wasson and cross paths with him some 25 yrs later. What an incredible couple to endure 38 years together.

He was an amazing teacher and an even greater human being. He befriended and inspired many of us that attended Palmer. I was a proud member of the "horn dogs", and took a trip or two in the "thing". He will be missed......

The students at Palmer night school were not A-listers by any strech of the imagination. I should know, I was one of them for two years. Mr. Reddick didn't seem to notice this. He treated us all kindly and with more respect than we probably deserved. It's sad to hear of his passing. My condolences to his family.

I send my sympathy to all of you. I was a long time customer at Jay's and Joan and I knew each other for many years during her time with District 11. I heard about Steve over the years and was always touched by the love his family shared so easily with all of us.

My condolences goes out to the family of Mr. Reddick. He was one of my favorite teachers. I was the only girl in his "History of War" class and I learned alot from him. He taught from his heart and cared about his students and I would of taken his class again if I could of throughout my years at Palmer High. He will be missed, but their will always be fond memories in his students. The stories he had were unforgettable!!! His VW Thing stuck out
like a sore thumb, but when you saw it you knew he would be in class. A man who will be missed by many and remembered by alot.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Mr. Reddick was my teacher at Palmer. Anyone who had the privelege to have him as a teacher came out of his class laughing but more importantly we learned much from him. His teaching made a major contribution to the lives of many and that is a true legacy.

Mr. Reddick made those boring history classes exciting. He even put up with my class antics without having to send me to the dean's office. Rest in peace, my friend, and condolences to Kathy and the Reddick family.
