Sue Brandt Obituary

Sue R. Brandt (Virginia Sue Reading Brandt) passed away May 30, 2007 in Colorado Springs, CO. She was a retired teacher, editor and the author of books for school and library use. She was born on June 16, 1914 in rural Curryville, Pike County, MO, a daughter of William Francis and Virginia Lee Ball Reading. A graduate of the Vandalia High School in Missouri and the University of Chicago, she briefly taught in schools in Missouri, Michigan and Illinois and then worked as an editor for textbook and encyclopedia companies in Chicago and New York City. On June 14, 1957, she was married to Charles J. Brandt of New York City, where she lived and worked before moving to Colorado Springs in late 1988. Preceding her in death were her husband; three sisters, Victoria Isabel Reading, Frances Ruth Pettit, and Nell Maud Levy; two brothers, John Richard Reading and Charles Ball Reading. She is survived by a stepdaughter, Yvonne M. Brandt of New York City, NY, her godson, Derek Levy of Eagle River, AK; one brother, William Lee (Beatrice) Reading of Palm Desert, CA; sister-in-law, Deedie Reading of Curryville, MO; one niece and eight nephews and numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, June 5, 2007 at the Medalion Retirement Community, 1719 E. Bijou St., Colorado Springs, CO. Arrangements are handled by Funeral and Cremation Care of Colorado, including cremation and scattering of ashes.
