Sue Gubser Obituary

Gubser
Sue Ann
(Keller) Gubser
April 27, 1944
January 27, 2025

Sue Ann (Keller) Gubser passed away graciously into the arms of Jesus on January 27, 2025 in the presence of her immediate family after a long struggle with Alzheimer's.
Sue was born in Charlotte, North Carolina to Lois and Pete Keller on April 27, 1944. Sue and her younger brother, John, grew up in a typical Air Force family that was stationed all over the world. They enjoyed the experience of living in California, Denver, Guam, Tokyo, Chicago, Colorado Springs, Germany, San Francisco, Springfield VA, and Alaska. Sue always made friends easily because of her sweet, kind, caring, and giving nature.
Sue graduated from Kaiserslautern High School in 1962 and then attended Colorado College in Colorado Springs. There she formed lifelong bonds with her Gamma Phi Sisters and graduated with a major in English. It was there that she met and fell head over heels in love with Ross Gubser who was attending the Air Force Academy nearby. Sue and Ross were married on December 22, 1966 in Springfield, VA. Ross and Sue also moved regularly to a variety of national and global locations including Morocco which held a special place in their hearts.
Sue was a lifelong educator empowering others through literacy. Sue used her caring, giving, and educational talents to serve as a kindergarten teacher, technical writer, trade show coordinator, and supporter of several nonprofits. In particular, she served as a board member for the Emily Griffith foundation which provided educational and charitable funding to empower students through opportunity. Sue also started a company with an associate to provide adult literacy programs to help young adults succeed in their personal life and work careers. Sue was a member of the Junior League and volunteered to support the annual Springs Spree community celebration.
Later Sue served at First Presbyterian Church as a senior pastor secretary, stewardship coordinator, Deacon, and Stephen Minister. Sue was loved by everyone she met, and she seemed to have endless energy and kindness to give to others. She was a natural connector when it came to mingling old and new friends, hosting wonderful dinners and memorable gatherings.
Sue is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 58 years, Ross Gubser, as well as her children and grand-children: Jennifer (David) Worth, Peter (Andrea) Gubser and their daughters Payton and Ellianna, and Alison (Rod) Swift and their son Keller and daughter Johanna. Sue is also survived by her brother John (Deletha) Keller III and her niece Christine (Garrett) Keller, and nephew John (Stacey) Keller IV.
A memorial service will take place in her honor on Thursday, February 20, 2025 at 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church located at 219 E. Bijou Street in Colorado Springs.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association or First Presbyterian Church.
