Susan Anteola Obituary

SUSAN JEAN ANTEOLA
December 14, 1948 December 31, 2020
Susan Jean Anteola, 72, of Houston, Texas, passed away at home on Dec. 31, 2020 after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer.
Susan was born Dec. 14, 1948 in Los Angeles, Calif. to Gene and Carmelita Chapman. She was an Army brat, growing up across the US and overseas, with her family settling in Security, Colo. in 1962, moving there from Landshut, West Germany.
After meeting at Widefield High School, Susan (class of '67) married Marc Anteola (class of '66) on Dec. 5, 1970. They moved to Pittsburg, Calif. in the 1980s, started a family, and eventually moved to the NW Houston/Cypress area in 1995. After a 30-year career as an insurance investigator and adjuster, she retired in 2013.
Susan was blessed with the gift of gab and truly never met a stranger. She made friends everywhere she went and enjoyed staying in touch with all of them.
She loved to travel and looked forward to annual trips to Hawaii and frequent visits to see her family and friends in Colorado. In retirement, Susan and Marc joined local seniors groups and loved the camaraderie they found on bus trips to Branson, Mo. and Shiner, Texas and everywhere in between.
An avid reader, she always kept a pile of books nearby. You could often find her up late into the night devouring mystery novels. After she retired, her love of books inspired her to volunteer at her local library.
She had a heart for animals and over the years accepted many stray cats and dogs into her family. She was known to keep pet food in her car to feed homeless animals she would encounter along the road.
But most of all she loved her family and dedicated her life to them. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and sister. The oldest of seven siblings, Susan was caring and encouraging. She delighted in spending time with and enjoying the spontaneity of her four grandchildren who lovingly called her "Gagy."
Susan is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Christopher and Michael.
She is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Marc; daughters Marquel Anteola and husband Matt Havlik; Marisa Owen and husband Bryson; grandchildren Amelia and Ingrid Havlik and Violet and Parker Owen; siblings Karen, Steven, and Dennis Chapman, and Teresa Ritz and husband Tom; sisters-in-law Terry Brown and husband Dick, Vicky Fleming and husband Bob; brother-in-law Andrew Anteola; and many nieces and nephews, neighbors, and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday January 25, 2021 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church 11507 Huffmeister Rd, Houston, TX 77065, with masks required for those in attendance. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.

I met Susan and Marc working the school district football games. While working the games, we would talk and laugh. We just had a good ole time. Susan gave me a list of books and authors that she liked. A few I had read and we discussed. I will miss you, Susan. My condolences to Marc and the family.

I send my deepest condolences to Susan's family. I was so sad to just read of her passing. I had the blessing of working with Susan at Liberty Mutual Insurance from 1996-1998. I was a file clerk but was always fascinated with the field investigation unit. I thought conducting surveillance and going on investigative assignments was pretty good stuff! I got to know Susan, Charley, Richard, Frank, David, and Helen. They were special people and always good friends. I remember one afternoon in the summer of 1998, when we got real email, not just interoffice email, I was on my afternoon mail pick up and stopped by Susan's desk and told her that I realized that we had real email and that I'd just sent my mom a message. We sent an email to Susan's husband Marc and it was something like Hi from Susan's friend! I'm so thankful for the time I got to know and work with Susan, she was a delightful person and although it has been over 20 years since I last saw her, I still remember it like it was yesterday.

I am at a loss for words after finding out that Susan passed, she was a sweet person. She always smiled and greeted me friendly. We worked together at high school football games and always had lots to talk about. I am so surprised and saddened at her passing. Because of the COVID-19 I will not attend her home going service. To Mark I offered my deepest sympathy and condolences.

To the Anteola and Chapman families, may peace be with you as you grieve the loss of your beloved Susan. Several people have posted on this guest book that they fondly recall her friendly smile, which is what I recall as well. I have nothing but fond memories of Marc and his sister Terry from grade school in the 1950s all the way through high school in the mid 1960s in Security, Colorado. It was fitting that Susan and Marc met in that small town, which in many ways was a safe refuge for the diverse families from all cultures. Given that national statistics show that many marriages do not last long, it speaks volumes about the characters of Susan and Marc that they had 50 fulfilling and happy years of marriage.

She is secure in God’s love and care...

Susan wasone of the nicest, kindest people I ever knew in my high school experience in Security, Colorado. I sometimes had the chance to walk down Norman Drive on my way to the keyhole area of Rose Drive while talking with her. I still remember her smile. I was so delighted to find out at some pointthat she and Marciano had gotten married, with me thinking they were such a good match. I would be shocked if their grown kids do not have many of the same qualities. My childhood was so enriched by having the Anteola family in the keyhole area of Rose Drive where we lived. Marciano and his sister Teresita had the coolest back yard. It is so difficult to lose a loved one, especially your high school sweetheart. Susan definitely made this crazy world a lot more enriching with her life.Again, I am so very sorry for your loss.

We are so sad that Susan is no longer on this earth to share her sweet and contagious smile. Now she is in the arms of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ and at peace and out of pain. Susan, you and your family will always be in our hearts.
