Susan Flesch Obituary

SUSAN E. FLESCH
March 5, 1937
February 16, 2021
Susan E. Flesch, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully on February 16, 2021, with her husband of 64 years by her side.
Susan was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, March 5, 1937, the fourth child of Joseph and Frances McCall.
She spent her early years in Louisville, Kentucky, graduating from Loretto High School in 1956. Soon after graduation, she married Ron, the love of her life. Married life took her from Louisville to Wright-Patterson AFB for Ron's three year tour of duty. The next 40 years were spent in Lexington, Kentucky where they raised their four children. Susan was active at the UK Catholic Newman Center as a Eucharistic minister and regular attendee of Father Moore's theology class.
After raising her family, Susan earned a degree in practical nursing from Central Kentucky Vocational School, where she was known to her classmates as "The Peacemaker". She worked for 10 years as an LPN, caring for the elderly at Julius Marks nursing home and then as a private duty nurse for another 5 years.
In retirement she enjoyed round dancing, traveling, and being a grandmother. Ron and Susan danced in Lexington for 12 years with the Rhythm Rounds and continued after moving to Monument in 2003 with various Colorado round dance clubs. She described round dancers as the "best people" and had many great memories from her years of dancing. Her favorite travel destination was Israel, and she loved the summer reunions at Kentucky Lake with her boisterous Irish family. Her surprise 50th Hawaii anniversary trip and her surprise 60th anniversary party with her entire family were lifetime memories. She was a hands-on Granny and would never say "No" to a grandchild's "go to the park" or "read me a book" request.
Lover of jelly beans and ice cream, she was an avid board game player and always had the Luck-of-the-Irish on her side. Sitting next to Susan when she played Uno was almost always a losing proposition.
When in need of help, prayers to the Blessed Virgin Mary always provided her an answer.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents: Joseph and Frances, brothers: Pat and Mike and sister: Antoinette. She is survived by her husband, Ron; two siblings: Mary Ann and Tim; four children: James, Karl (Frieda), Suzanne (Richard), and Joanna (Kevin); nine grandchildren: Kelly, Erin, Chelsea, Katelyn, T.J., Nicole, Catherine, Connor and Logan; and her great-grandchildren: Beatrice, Grey and Sailor.
Susan's lifetime motto was "Laugh, Love, and Live". She will never be forgotten.
The family would especially like to thank Compassus Hospice nurses for their kindness and attentive care.

Dear Ron, Suzanne and Rich, JR, Karl and Joanna and all,
Our hearts are saddened by the loss of our dear Granny Susan. For many years there was rarely a holiday, birthday, dance recital or special event that didn't include granny and grandpa Flesch. You became family in 1990, and the love that we have shared has only grown and is treasured by us.
Grandpa Ron, we are holding you close in our hearts and in our prayers, as you deal with the loss of Susan on this earth. The beautiful memories of her love, caring, hugs and giggles will live in our hearts forever, until we meet again in Heaven. Thank you for sharing granny with us. Thank you for loving our family. Granny Susan will be dearly missed by us, and all who knew her.

I would like to offer my sympathy to all of the family . I have many early memories of Susan in Lexington when we first met as young mothers. We both belonged to the Newman Center & our children went to Lafayette together. Our lives revolved around church , IB M , & our sewing group. Susan , Joanne & Susanne went on a trip to Ireland with Sara Summers & myself . She wanted to see where her McCall side originated. She was always smiling & positive. I know she is terribly missed .
Peace to all!

Susan was a dear friend to my mother (Susan “Sissy” Hofmann Moriarty), as they met when they were about 7-years old in Louisville as neighbors, and remained close through their growing up and adult life. Our family has so many fond memories of Susan, Ronny and their family. When we would get together, we all looked forward to her 7-Up Salad, which she brought to many July 4 picnics! Our thoughts and prayers are with Ronny, JR, Karl, Suzanne and Joanna, as we consider all of you as family. Susan was a blessing to all of us, especially to my mom. Their relationship was always an example of what true friendship looked like. May we all cherish and enjoy the beautiful memories Susan gave to us.

Dear Flesch Family,

What an honor to have known Susan Flesch. I can hear her voice, and her laughter just thinking about her. She was truly one of the sweetest of childhood mothers and my favorite. I was blessed by knowing her and my dear friend, her daughter Joanna. Like my own mother, she was always very welcoming when visiting her home in Lexington. She was just a fabulous person and with Ron raised a wonderful family. It is definitely a legacy she's left this world with her children and grandchildren to carry on her humor, laughter, happiness, faith, work ethic and kindness as it only is a better place on Earth while waiting on Heaven to know a heart such as hers. I have been blessed by knowing her.
Love to your family, praying for your hearts now and the days to come.
Susan

Dear Uncle Ron and family,

We are so sorry to hear of Aunt Susie's passing. Our conversations at Kentucky Lake are some of my fondest memories. What a beautiful, sweet, bright light she was to us on earth. Heaven is a bit brighter with her there and Uncle Pat, Dad, and Uncle Bob have someone to attempt to keep them in line, a very difficult task, I know!

Love and prayers for comfort in the coming days as we share our memories about her.
