Susan Mattheson-Murray Obituary

Susan was called home by our Lord on April 26, 2017, ending a long battle with cancer here on earth.

Born in Geneva, New York, she was the daughter of Chap. Col. Raymond Thomas Mattheson, USAF (Ret.) July 3, 1915 - May 31, 2007 and Anita "Neenie" Jackson. Her sister, Nancy, also preceded her in death. COL Matttheson was the co-founder of Sunrise United Methodist Church. Susan attended Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Art History / Education).

Based on her many years of diverse international travel, and her passionate interest in foreign cultures, she served as the International Tourism Sales Manager (Colorado Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau) from 1991 to 2000. She was fluent in numerous foreign languages to include (French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese). Her portfolio included: Ritz-Carlton, Paperboard Packaging Council, Conference coordinator for US Department of Commerce Summit on Cultural and Heritage Tourism, San Diego Convention Center, Indianapolis Convention & Visitors Association, First Presbyterian Church, International Sales Manager, Colorado Springs Film Commission, Colorado Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau, Japan-America Society of Colorado-Colorado Springs, Colorado Springs Sister Cities International, and the Manjiro Center for International Exchange to name a few.

A firm believer in Second Chances, she married William Murray (COL-Ret) US Army on Feb 16, 2003 in Colorado Springs and they enjoyed many years of laughter and travels together. She is the last of her family and will be missed by everyone who knew her. Especially me!

There will be a celebration of life service on the 30th of May at 1st Presbyterian Church downtown at 2pm. All are welcome. Donations to Pikes Peak Hospice & Palliative Care (www.pikespeakhospice.org) in Susan's name would be greatly appreciated.
