Susan Spencer Obituary

Susan Elizabeth
(King) Spencer

Susan was born in San Antonio, TX, to William Madison King, Jr. and Doris Elizabeth (Burrows) King. Bill and Dody considered Texas home as both were from there. However, her father was a career Air Force officer and while growing up, Susan, along with her older sister Karen, lived in various locations in England, Alabama, Japan, and Germany. During college, Susan's parents were stationed in Germany. While visiting them one summer, she met her future husband, James Calvin Spencer, who was an Air Force officer stationed at the same base in Wiesbaden. Jim and Susan dated throughout that summer, and Susan returned to Germany the following year where they were married in 1970.
Jim ended his Air Force career outside Boston, MA, and took a job in Houston, TX. During their 11 years there they had two children, Stephanie and Ryan, born in 1974 and 1976. After falling in love with the mountains of Colorado, Jim and Susan moved the family to Colorado Springs, CO in 1982. Once her children were in school, following in the footsteps of her mother, Susan became a kindergarten teacher. She adored teaching and cultivated many young minds for over 20 years.
Susan loved travel and music, and the camaraderie of her many friends. Always active in her church, she became a lay reader, like her father before her, and used her beautiful voice to sing praises to God. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her husband Jim, Susan is survived by her daughter, Stephanie and her son-in-law Steve Saunders, her grandson, Christopher Saunders (Parker, CO), her son Ryan and daughter-in-law Lena Valencia (Brooklyn, NY), and her sister Karen King (Austin, TX).
Susan left this life on earth in grace and peace. She will be missed greatly by all of those she knew and loved until we meet again.
