Susanne was born in Transylvania, the only child of Zoltan and Margaret
Ujvarosi in what was then Kolozsvar, Hungary (now Cluj, Romania). They later moved to Budapest where she began her schooling. Hungary was allied with Germany in WWII, and they narrowly escaped the Russian invasion- and brutal Siege of Budapest in 1944. Mr. Ujvarosj (who had spent 5½ years in a Siberian prison as a WWI POW) attempted to drive the family to Austria, but the invaders stopped them on the road and confiscated his car. Susanne and her parents were forced to walk with their horse-drawn cart of belongings for 3 weeks to reach Austria. They spent 3 years in Weissenbach am AtterSee as Displaced Persons, then moved to an abandoned German Army barracks in a DP camp in Wels, Austria, where they lived for 3 more years in a 1 room shack with no running water, no bathroom and heat from a wood-burning stove. In 1950, the International Refugee Organization, in coordination with the Littleton, CO Presbyterian Church, made arrangements for Susanne and her father to sail on a returning U.S Navy ship to Ellis Island, NY. The mother would join them in a year. They' spoke almost no English, Susanne was enrolled in the 10th grade at Littleton High, and they were the first DPs to live at Friendship House built by the church. Susanne graduated from LHS with honors and received a full scholarship to the University Of Denver. After her freshman year at DU; she was voted Campus Queen and graduated with a degree in Biotechnology with honors and a Phi Beta Kappa key. Years later, she would return to DU to earn a Master's Degree in Social Work, again with honors. While still at DU as an undergraduate, Susanne married Robert G. Kent, MD, a medical student at-the time. They had 4 children, Brian (Cecilia}, Gordon, Stuart (Mary) and Andrea (Brian). She has 2 grandchildren from Gordon, Satya and Laila. After her divorce from Dr. Kent, Susanne married Erik Rocks. Their combined families gave her a full-time job. Erik died in 1978. In 1981, Susanne married Ron Truax, whom she had known for a decade prior. They were happily together for over 42 years until her death. Susanne was an amazing woman who lived a remarkable life. She was a rare combination of beauty, intelligence and strength, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Susanne was a wonderful asset to our Docent Program at the Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center. Since she was an enthusiastic and talented artist, she was very helpful to the students we toured each day. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was very popular.

Over 20 years ago, I followed Suzanne as docent president at the Fine Arts Center. She was a gifted artist, highly intelligent, with a sense of humor that kept me laughing at her quips about the FAC and docent issues. Harry and I will miss seeing Suzanne at performances of the Philharmonic.

She was such a lovely, cultured, classy woman. I met her when I became a docent. How I wish I had known her story but am glad that I do now. Thank you.

Suzanne was a special friend who was my mentor as a new docent at the FAC.
She and I shared a preference for watercolor in painting. A talented artist,
Suzanne valued the FAC, the tours for students and contribution to COS.
