Suzanne New Obituary

Mrs. Suzanne Cox New, age 73, of Natchez, MS died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at Natchez Regional Medical Center. Mrs. New was born August 28, 1931, in Elbert, CO the daughter of Maude Mae Fisher Cox and Alfred Delmont Cox. On August 28, 1947, she married David Alton New in Colorado Springs, CO. After his term of service in the U.S. Army, they returned to the south and lived in Delhi, LA and Stevens, AR. In 1948, they moved to Natchez, MS. Suzanne was a member of First Baptist Church, Natchez Garden Club and the Eastern Star. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Natchez First Baptist Church with Dr. Judson W. Hurt officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Laird Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Natchez First Baptist Church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She leaves to mourn her loss: her husband of 57 years, David Alton New, Sr.; three daughters and one son: Janet and her husband, Wally Caldwell and their son, Criss Caldwell; Paula and her husband, Leo Joseph, Jr. and their daughters and son: Suzanne Blalock, Lisa Brown, and Leo Joseph, III; Donna and her husband, Wayne Johnson and their sons and daughter: Doug, Sarah and Phillip Johnson; David Alton New, Jr. and his wife, Nannette and their son, David Alton New, III, all of Natchez, MS. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren. She is survived by four sisters: Bernice Erickson, Dorothy Engle and Betty Brackin, all of Colorado Springs, CO and Catherine Pennock of Florissant, CO. Suzanne is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Idola Doiel and three brothers: Roy Cox, Lawrence Cox and Albert Cox. Pallbearers will be: Doug Johnson, Phillip Johnson, Leo Joseph, III, David Alton New, III, Dickie New and Bryan Rabb. Honorary Pallbearers: Harvey Jones, Dr. Clifford Tillman, the late Rev. Joe McConnell, Elmer Engle, Johnny Brackin and Ty Coley. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Natchez First Baptist Church, 150 D'Evereaux Drive, Natchez, MS, 39120; The American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.

I didn't know Mrs. Cox but wish to express my sympathy to John and Betty Brackin whom I've known for many years. (They purchased a home from me perhaps 40 years ago.)
