Sylvia Hand Obituary

Kathy Hand passed away on April 20, 2017. Born in Independence, Iowa, she moved to Manchester, Iowa where she attended West Delaware County Community schools until her graduation. She was active in marching band and swimming, working as a lifeguard at the community pool during summer vacations.

She attended Morningside College and the University of North Carolina where she graduated with a BA. in English. She was vice president of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and following graduation she served as a traveling secretary visiting sorority chapters throughout the United States.

Kathy had a long career in advertising and sales beginning with KOA TV in Denver, J. Walter Thompson, in Dallas, California Federal Savings & Loan & Thomas Register both in Los Angeles. In her tenure with TR, she sold the first internet advertising that was sold by that company. She was a member of the Corps de Crabettes at the Crabtree & Evelyn store in Colorado Springs.

Her mother Shirley Tesmer (Tes) and father Gerald Hand (Pat) preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister Cindy Hand (Mike Tracy), niece Ana Tracy (Jamie Williams) and her uncommonly beautiful and brilliant two-year old great grand niece. Fraya Marie Tracy Williams all of Colorado Springs as well as the Douglas Hand (Cheryl) & Debra Hess (Mark) families in Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at Brookdale Skyline where she lived for the past year. Memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Colorado Springs or the Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado in Denver.
