Ted and Shirley Cull

Ted Cull Obituary

Longtime local physician and wife remembered. On the evening of November 24, Ted and Shirley Cull passed away in their home of over 40 years. Ted and Shirley, married fifty-five years first met in Berlin, Germany in 1959 while Shirley was visiting her brother, Russell. Married shortly thereafter, Shirley joined Ted in Berlin to start their life together.

Ted, grew up in Fort Recovery, Ohio, was a graduate of Ohio State University and received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Shirley, born and raised in Montgomery, Alabama, received her degree in education from Huntington College in Montgomery, Alabama.

Ted and Shirley moved from Berlin to Colorado in 1963, relocating to Colorado Springs in 1964. There Ted began his private practice as a physician in Manitou Springs, later joining Central Colorado Medical Center where he practiced until his retirement in 1998. Shirley, an educator, dedicated her life to the raising of her children and contributing her time to the local schools as a teaching assistant.

Ted was an avid hobbyist, dabbling in painting, gardening and loved nothing more than taking things apart and finding ways to put them back together again in a better way. He was happiest tinkering around the home, always engaged in multiple projects. He and Shirley shared a passion for antique collection, spending many weekends roaming the old mining towns of Colorado to find unique furniture and utensils. Shirley enjoyed taking these artifacts and refinishing them to give them a new life.

Ted and Shirley leave behind their four children, Millard Cull, Robert Cull, Ted Cull Jr. and Sharon Schmidt. They are survived by six adoring grandchildren as well. Shirley's surviving brother, Russell Smith, resides in North Carolina.

A memorial service will be held January 23rd, 1 PM at Gateway Presbyterian Church, 731 Castle Road.

Dr. Cull was our family doctor for many years. I got to know the at church, grew up with the kids. They were a wonderful couple. My hope is that you will come to know that they are finally at peace. It is hard to loose our parents. I think of them both fondly. Love to you all.

I have such fond memories of both of them that are just as vivid today as they were almost 30 years ago when I saw them last. Such kind souls. I will smile when I think of them and will miss them always.
