Terrance Atherton Obituary

Terry P. Atherton, 61, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 19. To many he was known as "Pops", "Papa Pig", or "the old man" who ran Earth Pig Music, a new and used record store on the west side of Colorado Springs. An avid music collector from the age of 13, he opened the small music store after his retirement from The United States Army in 1992. To many he was considered more than just the owner of Earth Pig Music; he was a friend, always up for witty banter, a game of golf, and sharing his extensive knowledge of all things music. Terry is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Mary Beth, son Tim and his wife Rachael (Colorado Springs), daughter Tammy and her husband John (Denver) and two granddaughters Tayla and Ruby, all of whom he adored. Terry's natural ability to keep everyone laughing will be fondly remembered and greatly missed. A celebration of his life will be held at Earth Pig Music, please call for details. 719-575-9847 Rock on, Terry.

Terry was a great person and he will be missed by me very much. When he visited Minnesota and stayed with us he would take time and sit down with me and talked. I learned alot from this knowledgeable person and will take everything he told me and will use it in my furture life. When my daughter was born Terry was at the hospital. He was like that because he loved family. Terry was family to me and I will always respect and love him. Terry "thanks for the gift you gave to my dad to give to me when he visited you in Colorado Springs. I will always cherrish this and will never use it. (you know what I mean)"
God Bless you Terry you are the man.

Terry is a lovable and kind person. When he came and stayed with us he always brought me flowers or a bottle of wine. He is one of the kindest and loving person I have ever known. Terry always made you laugh and made you feel loved. Terry was always inquiring of my health during my cancer. Terry will much be missed by me. I thank god that I had the pleasure of meeting and being with Terry during his visits to Minnesota. I will always remember the talks Terry had with my son Tyler. He loved and respected Terry very much. Terry always remember "stop by and I will cook you a meal and you don't have to bring flowers or wine" We will always love Terry and will miss him very much. Jim has stated "every round of golf will be for Terry."

I got to know Terry as I became a customer of the Earth Pig about four years ago. I remember his eyes lit up when we met and I told him I was getting back into vinyl. Ever since then, it was fun to share stories of record collecting. Terry was a good man. The more I got to know him, the more I learned he loved his family with a passion. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to his family. Keep that stool behind the counter where he sat, Tim. He liked hanging out there and he still will, I'm sure. Tim: The show is all yours now. The old man taught you a lot and he taught you well. Keep the Earth Pig spirit going, my man.
