Terrence Webster Obituary

June 4, 1985-February 4, 2008. Love, Laughter, and Truth! Terrence Webster tragically passed away Sunday, February 4, 2008. There are no words that can possibly express the loss everyone who knew him now feels. His life was lived with absolutely unending passion. He was the center of the universe for so many of us. At only 22 years of age, he had accomplished more than many manage in an entire lifetime. He had been all over the U.S., Brazil and Europe. He fought for the rights of everyone and was the most accepting person any of us have ever known. He could always be found willing to argue with the greatest of passion in defense of any who had suffered injustice. While being a great debater, he was also the best comedian any of us knew. He aspired to and achieved a Bill Hicks style of humor, where he did not avoid controversy and said whatever his heart and mind desired. He went from not knowing a thing about capoeira, a Brazilian martial art, to being able to do acrobatics none of us could believe. He was a singer, a musician and an incredibly talented player in the roda, all with the biggest smile on his face. One word that remains on everyone's minds is "irreplaceable." It is an absolutely apropos word. Terrence was an incredible individual, one the world will never see the likes of again. While we are all terribly saddened by this, we also must celebrate the greatness of Terrence. The fact that he could make so many people heartbroken with his passion just shows that he gave all those people so many moments of pure and intense happiness. Terrence also excelled in academics and was going to receive his B.A. in Visual and Performing Arts-Film Studies. Terrence will forever be cherished by his family. His parents, Penelope and Robert, his brothers, Bryce, Jarvis and Joseph, and his nephew, Jarvis Jr. are all very thankful for every moment they spent with him. Countless other friends, including J.S. and Dan, are equally thankful for the time they had with him. Enjoy a pint, our Irish lad! A memorial service will be held for Terrence on Saturday, February 9th at 11 a.m. at the Church of JC of Latter Day Saints-Melissa Chapel, 2750 Melissa Dr., Colorado Springs, CO 80907. In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations to a memorial capoeira fund for Terrence. For more information, please go to http://www.brasafund.com.

(I originally posted this on the UCCS blog, but this is a more appropriate place...) I can’t believe such a vibrant life was cut so short. I will forever remeber Terrence as a man with a perpetual smile on his face. He was such an integral part of the warm, loving, and accepting atmosphere at Brazilian Capoeira. It can be intimidating when you are new to something like capoeira, but Terrence always made you feel comfortable and gave you confidence in your own abilities. His talent was a beautiful gift he shared with everyone, not something he selfishly showed off. The brief time that I knew this funny little Irish guy was not nearly enough. I barely knew him, but I will deeply miss him. AXE, Terrence!… the world is a little bit darker without you, but I’m sure Heaven’s now a lot brighter.

Bob and Penelope,

Bob it has been some time since we last spoke but you are often in my thoughts. I'm sorry I never had the chance to meet Terrence, but judging from what I have read he was a wonderful guy much like his father. My heart goes out to you and your family. Please feel free to contact me.

Dear Penny, Robert and Brothers,

Far or near, the word of Terrence's death is so sad, defies any logic of life that we might have entertained until now. As a former coworker of yours, Penny, I send my heartfelt sympathy to all of you from Little Rock, Arkansas.
May the love of friends and family sustain you now and in the days ahead.

Terrence was a unique individual. He showed us what it means to be true to ourselves. It's uncanny how much living he fit into 22 years. Terrence will forever be my example to live life with passion and meaning. Our lives crossed paths for a few years. I will always be grateful for knowing Terrence.

To Terrence's family....I did not know Terrence although I felt I did. He was a close friend to my daughters boyfriend, Matt and I often heard of Terrence. Through this friendship we were aware of his medical concerns several months ago and had been praying for him. I am deeply sorry for your loss and will now keep you in my prayers that you may find comfort and peace in your memories of Terrence.
