Terry Burns Obituary

Once in a great while, remarkable people enter the world, live quietly helping others, subtly changing this tired old world through their actions. They don't draw attention to themselves, don't seek the spotlight, but rather they humbly go about working hard, serving others, creating laughter and making our world a little richer.
Terry Burns was one of those remarkable people.
Terry was generous with his time and attention. He was eager to help anyone who requested his assistance but never asked for it in return. Though he could solve any mechanical or construction problem with his amazing engineering-mind, he was also drawn toward deep relationships with others. Endlessly loyal, he was an unmovable rock among us: fun to be around, patient, kind, calm in any situation.
Born to Jim and Grace Burns in Denver, he honed his work ethic at an early age rolling newspapers to distribute the Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News before school. He participated in school activities, playing the Lead in "Oklahoma" in 9th grade, singing in the choir, maintaining high grades, all while working side jobs.
Terry graduated from Aurora Central High School in 1964 and earned a degree in Engineering at CSU in 1968. He joined the Air National Guard shortly after, married and began his family in Denver. He moved to Colorado Springs and accepted a position as a Civil Engineer at Fort Carson, a job he loved and continued to enjoy long beyond retirement age. He married Bj Burns in 1984, purchased a mountain cabin in 1985 where their weekend trips created many lasting memories for family and friends.
Terry loved gardening, wild birds, bowling, and Sudoku. He was a voracious reader, but the thing he loved most was to gather and share corny jokes. He was fiercely protective of those he loved even
when he didn't agree on a matter. Of all his many wonderful attributes, the one that best sums up Terry Burns is his "Servant's Heart".
Terry is survived by his mother, Grace Burns; brother Mike and his wife, Caren; sister Pat and her husband; wife of 38 years, Bj Burns; four sons and daughters-in-law: Leon Keith and Mayumi Edling; Kevin
and Stacey Edling; Steven and Nancy Burns; James Burns and Jessica Leatherman; 10 nieces and nephews, 18
great-nieces and nephews and 9 wonderful grandchildren.
The Celebration of his life will be held at Pikes Peak Veterans Cemetery on June 20 at 11:00 a.m. Please arrive by 10:45, line up in Lane 2 and instructions will be given. A reception will follow.

May Terry spread his wonderful humor and honest smile with all those souls he has been reunited with, in Heaven. While here on earth he shared both with all who loved him or called him, friend.
He will be greatly missed.
