Terry Freeman Obituary

TERRY LEIGH (PRATT) FREEMAN
March 4, 1947 March 27, 2021
Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother was born March 4, 1947 and passed away March 27, 2021 peacefully at home.
Terry was born to Garald and Lavon in Pocatello, Idaho and has two younger brothers Ken and Barney. She is survived by her loving Husband, John, children Drew, Derek, Christianne, and Daryl, and grandchildren Gabriel, Russell, Michael, Isaac, Sera, Eli, Zachariah, Evie, Isabelle, Jordan, Cecelia, and Myla.
Terry lived in Pocatello through her childhood until her family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska when she was 16. She loved her time in Alaska especially her experience working in a curio shop. She graduated from High School there and began college at the University of Alaska. After her freshman year she transferred to BYU majoring in German and it was there that she made lifelong friends who taught her how to live the gospel. She met her husband, John, at BYU on a blind date and they were married the next year in the Salt Lake City Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. After marrying, John was stationed in Germany in the Army where their first son was born. They returned to BYU where John finished his degree and then they settled in Southern California where their three other children were born.
A job opportunity in 1980 brought them to Colorado Springs, Colorado where Terry and John raised their children. After her 4 children were in school all day, Terry returned to college and graduated with a Bachelors in Art History from the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. She attended the University of Denver and earned her Masters Degree in Art History. Upon graduating, she worked at the Fine Arts Center in Colorado Springs as an assistant curator. Terry had a long career working at Colorado College in the Art Department as the visual resources curator and had the opportunity to meet and work with students from around the world. She loved her work there and the time she had to befriend students and mentor them.
Terry was very talented and able to learn new hobbies and become very proficient at any task she undertook. Her vast hobbies included sewing, crocheting, jewelry making, landscaping and gardening, making doll houses, needle point, painting, interior decorating, sewing doll clothes, genealogy and family history, and answering obscure jeopardy questions. She was a voracious reader and had a short term photographic memory.
One of her greatest joys was volunteering for her church. She taught children's primary classes numerous times over the years, served in the Relief Society, and most recently volunteered at the Denver Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints for several years.
Family was one of her main priorities and Terry was always available to help her children and grandchildren whenever needed. She and John enjoyed having a grandkids camp every summer for a week filled with adventures, crafts, and fun.
Terry was so grateful to all the friends and family that helped her to know Jesus Christ. They welcomed her and gave her a feeling of belonging at church, and helped her understand her divine nature as a daughter of God.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 9, 2021 at 10 a.m., at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints chapel, 6950 Shoup Rd, Colorado Springs, Co 80908 with a viewing held prior at 9 am. Services will be broadcast over Zoom simultaneously.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday April 8, 2021 at the Swan Law Funeral Directors, 501 North Cascade Avenue, Colorado Springs, Co.

Correction: Terry worked at CC for 27 years (I mistakenly said 17)

It was a privilege and an honor to be Terry's colleague for 17 years in the Art Department at Colorado College. As Curator of Visual Resources she supported our programs in numerous ways and was a pioneer in helping us make the transition from slides to digital format teaching. As a friend, we shared the stories of our families and children on a daily basis. We are terribly saddened to see her leave so early. Sincere condolences to her beloved husband, children and grandchildren.
