Terry Harris Obituary

Beloved father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend died at his home in Divide, Colorado February 21, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Belleville, Kansas on February 11, 1950. He was the oldest of three children in an Army family and spent his formative years in a variety of places abroad and in the United States - an experience that shaped his outlook on life, his patriotism for his country and his numerous experiences and personal relationships. He graduated with the Harrison High School class of 1969 and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Terry owned Barker Heating and Air Conditioning in Colorado Springs, CO. He was respected for his skills, vision and craftsmanship, work ethic, high standards and attention to detail. He spent his career in the construction industry where he made many lifelong friendships. Throughout his life, Terry was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. His adventures took him and his son, Cody across many parts of the country and he enjoyed his many hunting and fishing buddies. His home was filled with many treasured hunting trophies. One of his favorite stories was that of the smiles on children's faces that came to fish for the first time at Shadow Lake during the "Kid's Day" festivities. We remember him for his easy smile, generous nature, cowboy hat and boots, beer in hand, his dog companion, Cain, and the special place in his heart for all his animals and the Denver Broncos. He is survived by his children, Cody Harris, of Divide, who cared for him unconditionally during his illness; daughter, Tara Harris of Limon, CO; mother Lotte Fortag and husband Ralph of Albuquerque, NM; sister Rositta Webb and husband Harvey; brother William Harris and wife Bobbie, all of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren Amanda, Rebecca, and Matthew of Limon; loving nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie and his father, Hiram. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 1 p.m. at The Little Chapel of the Hills in Divide, CO. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cancer Society or to Spring Valley POA Terry Harris Shadowlake Kids Fishing Fund, P.O. Box 513, Divide, CO 80814.

Waking up with no alarm at 5:00 a.m. No TV just a broadcasting of sports ushually. Hunting, fishing, exploring, skinning, casting and stringing. My favorite story is. He told me to tare it up I had two poles. He fell asleep and he woke up I had 37 fish on the stringer. I kept thinking of waking him but I never woke up a grandpa bead before. His attitude changed but he kept a john Wayne poker face on pulled his drink up and said he'll let's go. Man I swear brother sister something happened that day at the lake I barely cast out two feet and fish gripping freshly tied trout bait and casting lure. I member grandma and grandpa always working together somehow making amends meet and I promise you prayers of good health. New realms of heavenly faith, loyalty, love, gratitude, wise man never tell a tail.

I miss that man as much today as I did right after he passed. There are only a few people made that were as genuine and happy. I think he will be missed by everyone that knew him no matter if it’s now or 20 years from now. He was one of the good ones and everyone should hope they get to meet someone like him during their lives.
Always missed but never forgotten, I’ll see you again someday my friend.

I think I will miss Terry's grin the most. He was one of the kindest and most genuine people I have ever met. Much love to Cody, Tara, and the family.

I will always treasure the memories and good times that myself and my family had with Terry while I was growing up in Spring Valley. He will be missed. Our condolences.
