Terry Salt Obituary

Salt
TERRY SALT
April 4, 1921
August 21, 2018
Husband, dad, grandpa. We honor you, we thank you, Peace, love, forever.
Terry Salt, beloved husband of Mickey and beloved father of Rock, Candy, Muff, Pat, Suzi, Tracy, Marty and Mike, died August 21, 2018. Terry was born on April 4, 1921 in Fargo, North Dakota, where he spent his early school years. He moved to Minneapolis with his mother where he lived for several years. He attended the University of Minnesota where he met Jane, his future wife and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree. Terry and Jane were married June 19, 1943 and had a loving and wonderful marriage for over 62 years. The joys of his life with Jane were his six children and their six spouses, his 19 grandchildren, and his 36 great-grandchildren.
In his teenage years during the Great Depression, Terry spent his summers working as a tour guide in Glacier National Park, Montana, and on highway construction projects near the Grand Tetons in Wyoming. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 and deployed to Italy as a B-24 pilot in December, 1943. Terry's Army career included tours in Ft. Sill, OK, Germany, Korea, and Vietnam. When he retired from the Army in 1969, he returned to Colorado and taught math at Sproul Junior High in Security. In 1978, Terry was elected to the El Paso County Commission, where he served for six years. He is remembered on the Commission as a gentleman's gentleman who fought hard for his positions, compromised to find a solution, yet moved on to the next challenge when he lost. After retiring from the Commission, he returned to teaching, first at Sproul, then as a volunteer teaching GED math for the county jail and at Ecumenical Social Ministries, a local non-profit.
Several years after Jane died in 2006, Terry moved from Security to Liberty Heights Retirement Community where he met and fell in love with Mickey Mosier. They married on December 24, 2012 bringing Mickey's children, Marty and Mike, into the family. They spent their time playing bridge, traveling, and enjoying their many friends.
First and foremost Terry was always a gentleman. He enjoyed playing bridge and chess, had a sharp sense of humor, and an engaging personality. Terry was an enthusiastic supporter of his children's many activities. He was also active in PTA, Boy and Girl Scouting, Knights of Columbus, Lions Club, Argonauts and was an avid member of the Air Force Academy Quarterback Club (except when they played Army).
Terry was a generous supporter of Salvation Army, Kidney Foundation, Girl Scouts, Red Cross, Easter Seals, Marian House, Teen Court, Pike's Peak Humane Society, as well as his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's fundraising activities.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, August 23 at 3:30 pm at Liberty Heights Retirement Community, 12105 Ambassador Drive, Colorado Springs, CO, 80921. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 24 at noon at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 927 N Logan Ave, Colorado Springs, followed by internment at Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 Hancock Ave. In lieu of flowers, donations in Terry's memory can be made to the Pike's Peak Humane Society.

Not sure what to say?

Pat, Kathy, Brent, Ryan and the rest of the Salt Family,
Our heartfelt condolences for you all. We are so sorry that we never had a chance to meet Terry but so glad on our last dinner together with Pat and Kathy a few weeks ago so much of the conversation was about your Dad, such wonderful stories that we felt we got to know him a little through your loving recountings of your childhood memories. To then read his biography we were even more impressed with the incredible honor in which he lived his entire life. It is no wonder he raised such an admirable son as you, Pat. We are so happy he was able to stay with you all for such a long time which we know makes it harder to say goodbye but we hope a lifetime of beautiful memories will comfort you and keep him alive in your hearts. We love you all, Diana Featherstone & Peter McNab

Suzi and all the family... prayers and hugs sent your way.
What a delightful man. I enjoyed talking with him at several of our Girl Scout functions. He always had a smile and beamed with pride for the work you did with the Girl Scouts, and of course the love you have for family. Glad you have a wealth of memories to reflect with. Love to you all.

Memories of your dad are numerous. First as a neighbor and surrogate parent. It was he my parents trusted with our lives when Marc overdosed on baby aspirin and they needed to rush him to the hospital. It was he who always greeted me with a smile as I struggled through his math class at Sproul. It was he who I aspired to become a man of grace and dignity. Rest In Peace Terry. You left your mark on earth.

I remember him from Sproul, and when he was campaigning, still have the penny card he used...always liked him. Condolences to friends and family. He will be missed.

Terry and I were hired as math teachers at Sproul the very same year. We taught next door for many years there, and I had the privilege of teaching Suzi and Tracy. What a great man! I will never forget him in his Indian headdress greeting the students at the door when he was going to teach some concept - what it was, I don't know. He was a great asset to Sproul, and a good friend. Before Bryce and I were married, he and Jane threw us a party at their house. What fun we had in those days. It has been years since I have seen him, but I will never forget him. Condolences to all of his family.
