Thomas Carnegie Obituary

Thomas Morrison Carnegie IV of Colorado Springs, Colorado died peacefully in his home at the age of 88 on August 10, 2011. Born in New York City April 7, 1923 to Dorothy Duncan and Thomas Morrison Carnegie III, Tom was educated at St. Bernard's School in New York City, St. Paul's School in Concord, New Hampshire and then Yale University. As a student Tom was a keen athlete who continued as an enthusiastic tennis player and golfer until very late in life. He served his country honorably as a B - 17 Pilot in Europe during World War II. Tom married Florence Jane Herrick of Rye, New York on April 24, 1943, who sadly passed away on March 3, 2011 after a short illness. Tom and Florence are survived by their children, Tim, Bill, Virginia and Catherine; grandchildren, Timmy, Jacqui, Victoria, Elizabeth; great-grandchild, Parker. Tom has been a permanent resident of Colorado Springs for over fifty five years with a wide circle of close friends in the Broadmoor Community, where he was a regular at bridge competitions and tennis tournaments at the Cheyenne Mountain Country Club. Tom was possibly happiest with his family gathered around him during summers at Cumberland Island, Georgia, where he spent many summers during his youth. As a husband, father, patriot and sportsman, Tom enriched the lives of his family and community in ways only the passing of time can fully measure.
