Thomas Herbert Obituary

A Journeyman Carpenter. Tom could design, build and fix anything. A man of strength and stature that choose to embrace life with his own brand of eternal optimism. Tom worked and lived all over the country to include Philadelphia, PA., Ft. Lauderdale, FL., Manitou Springs, CO. as well as a stint in Missouri. Tom was a free spirit who loved to travel. Camping, road trips, festivals of any kind and Mexico were a few of his favorite adventures. One of Tom's favorite quotes was J.R.R. Tolkien's "Not all those that wander are lost." A photographer with a 50 year portfolio, Tom's love of photo art was a passion that he embraced. Tom had a tremendous love of music from Blues to Global to Jazz and everything in between. A physically and mentally strong individual, there was nothing Tom couldn't conquer. He shared his strength and knowledge with those whom he loved and he was always first to give a kind word of encouragement or a helping hand. Tom loved to share and teach to those who wanted to learn. Tom's life can best be defined by stating that we each live and survive based on terms and conditions that life dictates to us, but Tom would not have his life dictated to him. Tom lived instead by his own terms and conditions everyday and inspired everyone he met to redefine how we can live our own lives without limits. Tom's life was a life of excess. Excessive happiness! Tom had a contagious inspirational spirit that no one could resist. Everyone who knew Tom was a friend of Tom's. Tom had a keen interest in people, not politics. It has been said that if you didn't know Tom in Manitou Springs then there is a good chance that nobody knew you. Those who spent time with Tom can agree that after spending a weekend with him you would come away feeling completely exhausted and then suddenly you would get home and feel completely exhilarated at the amount of fun you just had hanging with Tom. We all will miss you and will reminisce about your tremendous positive attitude and internal strength for years to come.
We Love You.

So much to be said, I have known Tom for 43 years gave him a send off from Florida. Finding this saddens me as we lost touch years ago. Whoever wrote this obit , my hat is off to you, that pretty much sums it up for Tom. He was a brother from another mother, my photo books are full of his sit back and watch people do what people do. Love you my brother, sorry we lost contact!!!!

I saw Tom a few months ago at the laundra-mat and I wish I would have talked to him longer. He had a huge smile for me and I could see he was sick. Now I am mad at myself and have learned another life lesson. Tom gave me the most beautiful framed pictures he took...one looks like a painting and another looks 3-D. I am so so sorry for his passing and sorry I won't be able to fix him up with Sky Sox Tickets again. This really bothers me, damn it!
What a nice guy!
