Thomas Jamison Obituary

Thomas "Thom" Jamison of Grand Junction passed away December 13, 2007. He was born June 20, 1934 in Colorado Springs, to Lee Dare and Minnie E. Jamison. He graduated from Colorado Springs High School, and attended CU in Boulder for two years, where he studied math. On April 8, 1963, Thom married Lyda M. Fish who owned Fish Break & Clutch where Thom became the store manager. Thom loved auto racing and participated in many. If someone came into the shop and needed parts or repairs and was involved in racing, he would give them a break. He wanted to help anyone involved in the sport to go as far as they could. In 1963, he came in 2nd Place in the Pikes Peak Hill Climb in the Sports Car Division, driving a Corvette. Hot Rod magazine even featured him in an article! After Governor Love was elected, Thom, in his new 1963 Corvette, drove the Governor in the inaugural parade. One of his favorite times was when he attended the Indianapolis 500 and saw Al Unser, Sr. win it for the 4th time. It was well known that come Indianapolis 500 race day, nobody was allowed to visit or bother him until the race was over! Thom was a member of the "Over the Hill Gang" for the Pikes Peak Hill Climb and a founding member of the Sports Car Club in Colorado Springs. He was active for many years as time keeper for the Land's End Hill Climb. Something that will be greatly missed by his family are his Poor Man's Cookies. He used his mother's recipe and would make them every year during the holidays. Survivors include wife, Lyda; sons and their wives, Michael and LeeAnn Jamison, Paul and Heather Jamison, Patrick and Paula Jamison, daughter, Joyce French of Westminster, CO; brother, Richard Jamison of Los Angeles, CA; sister Beverly Honey of Moberly, MO; 12 grandchildren and one great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents, three brothers and one sister preceded him in death. A memorial service was held on December 18, 2007 at First Presbyterian Church, Grand Junction.
