I have been a friend and IEEE colleague of Tom for about 30 years in the Instrumentation & Measurement Society of the IEEE. Tom was a friend, a mentor, a colleague and always had a new idea. He became the TC-10 chair replacing NIST Chair Michael T. Souders and then gave me this title when he stepped down in 2013. His passion for Engineering and bleeding edge technology was always a great dinner conversation around the world and I respect him greatly as he was not only a mentor and friend, but he encourage many others to excel in their fields. I can't count the time we met around the world and US at IEEE and other meetings, with his wife Sally and I am encouraged by his passion, even later in life to start yet another company when he sold Q-DOT. We have MANY world-wide friends together, MANY great experiences from Colorado Springs, Denver, Boulder, Vail and Frisco to NIST in Boulder, CO and Gaithersburg, Maryland, Venice, Italy and a hundred other locations around the USA and our international travels. Yes, Tom always had his book, earbuds in, personal and technical calls abounded, but he was always welcoming, encouraging and gracious to spend time with anyone who wanted his help. What else can I say, I am grieving for his loss today with Sally who I spent a great time on the phone today, crying and reminiscing together about all the wonderful things Tom was such a big part of facilitating, promoting and leading all of us who knew him well. I may have to add more later.
