Thomas L. McGahey, 94, passed away December 1st at his home in Monument, CO, after a short illness. Mr. McGahey was born in Los Angeles, California, on October 17, 1927, to Joseph C. and Helen C. McGahey (nee: Clark) and had one sibling, Shirley Jean McGahey and two half-siblings, Annette and Jeannette McGahey.
At the end of WWII, Mr. McGahey served in the Army, with the occupational forces stationed in Japan, as part of the 3rd TMRS (Transportation – Military Railway Service). After his service, he returned to Los Angeles and worked for Trans World Airlines (TWA) at the newly renamed Los Angeles International Airport, where he met the love of his life and life-long partner: Audrey M. Yerkes. They were married on February 20, 1954, in Los Angeles and raised five children.
From the mid 1970's to mid-1990's the family relocated to southern New Mexico, where Mr. McGahey worked in a variety of positions, including Chief of Police, Central, New Mexico and Deputy Sheriff, Luna County, New Mexico. He also served as President of the local chapter, Fraternal Order of Police, in Deming, New Mexico.
Mr. McGahey retired and relocated to Chino Valley, AZ until his wife of 60yrs passed away, in 2014. He then moved to Monument, CO and lived with son and daughter-in-law.
He is preceded in passing by his parents, sister, Shirley Jean (Romanoff) McGahey and one son: Donald Scott McGahey (1958-2021). He is survived by children: Richard, of Monument, CO; Kent, of Lake Elsinore, CA; Lana, of Chino Valley, AZ; and Janice, of Cullman, AL; daughter-in-law: Gina, of Chino Valley, AZ; sisters: Annette Miller and Jeanette McGahey, as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, grand-children and their families, who will miss his kind words of encouragement and positive influence.
