Thomas H Mitchell was born to Ralph & Ina Mitchell on November 28 , 1935. That happened to be Thanksgiving Day. The family was double blessed with birth of of a healthy baby boy on such a holiday of graditude.
Tom grew up in Sioux City, Iowa. He had a wonderful playground with all the hills and of course, the Missouri River He and his friends never ran out of imagination with such surroundings.
Tom attended Smith grade school, West Junior high and Central Senior high. Central was known as the Castle on the Hill because that is exactly what it looked like.
After high school, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was stationed in France for two years. It proved to be a real adventure for the young man. He loved being in Europe and took advantage of many opportunity to travel
Upon coming home he enrolled in Ottawa Univerity and spent a semester in Kansas. He returned to Sioux City and attended the University of South Dakota. Purely by chance he met the girl who would become his wife, Patti Snuttjer. Patti was a nursing student at that time. The wedding took place on December 5, 1959. The marriage lasted sixty-two years, ten months and one day. Colorado Springs was the first stop on their journey together. They tried out a couple of other states but Colorado kept calling.
June 1, 1967 was the date he began his career as a State Farm Agent in Colorado Springs. He had found his calling. Mostly he enjoyed serving his clients and always being available to help. After 35 years he retired on January 15, 2003.
Tom and Patti had 2 sons, Brian Todd Mitchell , wife Kimberly and Jon Thomas Mitchell, wife Suzanne. One grand daughter Stephanie Mitchell, husband Mark. One great grandson Austin Wolfkiel. He was predeceased by son Brian and grand daughter Stephanie. His parents, brother Jerry, sister Susan, and his dear Grandmother Anna Huling
A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at Pikes Peak Memorial Cemetery, the date will be announced. Tom loved flowers but if anyone would care to donate in his name ,we would appreciate having memorials sent to Happy Cats Haven or the American Red Cross for hurricane relief.
The family would also like to sincerely thank Abode Hospice for the gracious care and love they gave to our loved one in his final days.
