Thomas William Mou MD, beloved father and grandfather passed away peacefully on October 10th, 2022. He was born May 17th,1920 in Philadelphia, PA to Thomas Simonsen Mou and Ellen Mathiesen Mou. He graduated from Simon Gratz High School in 1937 and entered Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science graduating with a B.Sc. degree in Bacteriology in 1941. He served as a Lieutenant in WWII in the Army Air Corps and was in the Air Force Reserves from 1951 to 1971. After the war, he obtained his MD in 1950 from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry and did a rotating Internship at Strong Memorial Hospital 1950 -1952 and a residency in Internal Medicine from 1952-1953. Dr. Mou was then a fellow in medicine and U.S.P.H.S. fellow in Infectious Diseases at Harvard Medical School, Thorndike Memorial Lab, Boston City Hospital 1953 - 1954. He returned to University of Rochester as faculty and subsequently moved to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse, NY in 1956. Dr. Mou progressed through the academic ranks to become Professor of Community Medicine for SUNY Health Sciences Center in Syracuse. While in Syracuse, he founded and directed a Neighborhood Health Center. From 1971 until 1977, he became the Executive Dean, then Provost and finally Associate Chancellor for Health Sciences for the entire SUNY System. Moving on, he became Dean of the West Virginia Medical School, Charleston Campus from 1977 to 1985 and Dean Emeritus in 1986. Dr. Mou left to become the President of ECFMG until his retirement in 1987.

After retiring to Colorado Springs he practiced Internal Medicine in Pueblo, Colorado on a part time basis for about 10 years. During his retirement he became a docent at the Fine Arts Center and at age 89 was the docent with the most touring hours for the year in 2009. He was a violinist in the Pikes Peak Philharmonic. For the last 6 years he has resided in Overland Park and at Claridge Court in Prairie Village, Kansas.

Tom was a gentle man who dedicated his life to the health and wellbeing of others and who earned the respect of all who knew him. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, sailing, hiking, music, ballet, musical theater, fine food and spending time with his family.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, Dr. Susan Mou (Dr. Frank Slovick), Roberta Mou (Guenter Thiel), Dr. Richard Wiley Jr. (Gwen), Russell Wiley (Kelly), Grandchildren, Shey Butler,
Greg Slovick, Eleanor Hancock, Rachael Mou-Thiel, Abigail Slovick and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife DJ (Delma Jane) in 2016.
