Thomas Shumate Obituary

Thomas William Shumate Jr, age 58, of Colorado Springs, passed away November 18th at St. Francis Hospice Care. Tom was born on May 24th 1949 in Salida Colorado, son of Mary Ann and Thomas Shumate. Tom was raised in Colorado Springs and was a graduate of Wasson High School. He was a resident of Colorado Springs for the last 15 years and was employed by Ideal Concrete Company. Tom poured his heart and soul into the streets and highways of Colorado Springs for the past 15 years. He is preceded in death by his Mother, Mary Ann, his father, Thomas and grandmother Anna J. Rieden, all of Colorado Springs. He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Shumate, two daughters Jessica and Sara Shumate; both daughters live in Florida and his step-daughter Katie Jo Jenson. Three sisters, Patricia Powers, and Suzanne Baker of Colorado Springs, Jane McCabe, of Orland California and one brother William Shumate, of Tempe Arizona. Tom leaves many nieces, cousins, Aunts and Uncles in the Colorado Springs area that will miss him. Tom was an honest man who loved his family. He cared deeply for his step daughter, Katie Jo, and was extremely proud of her dedication in college. Tom will be missed by his entire family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Pikes Peak Hospice at St. Francis Hospital. A memorial service will be held for Tom on Saturday at 1:00 pm at Evergreen Funeral Home.
