Tim Watkins Obituary

Watkins
Tim Watkins
Born November 17, 1956 in Ft. Collins, Colorado, to Virgil and Jodi (Aschinger) Watkins, Tim spent most of his life in Palmer Lake, Colorado. He attended school through the Lewis-Palmer School District and graduated in 1975. He attended college at University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, studying education.
Tim's passion was in everything outdoors. Growing up with his father, Virgil, an avid and skilled outdoorsman, Tim and his family were raised with an inspired view of nature and God in heaven, the creator. Growing up in Palmer Lake, the foothills of Pike National Forest were his playground. With friends and family he would camp, backpack, enjoyed hiking, fishing, skiing, and hunting. He learned outdoor survival skills from his father and eventually would put those to use on trips in the high mountains of the west. In 1987, a severe injury to his feet and ankles had Tim turn to bicycling as a means of physical therapy and healing. The cycling world gained its biggest supporter. Tim never looked back. He saw only what he could do, never his limitations. Some of his greatest pleasures were sharing his love of cycling with anyone and everyone. If you ever had the pleasure of doing a ride with Tim, he was always encouraging, inclusive, and just plain fun. Many of the people who were lucky to have known him, met him through the bike and ski shops that he worked throughout Colorado as well as his own shop in Monument, Colorado, Balanced Rock Bike and Ski.
Anyone who knows Tim knows that his ultimate joy came from his children, Isaac and Arielle, and his beautiful granddaughter, Elora. They were the light of his life and his reason for being. Tim's generosity and genuine love for everyone knew no bounds. Everyone became family with Tim.
Besides his new wife, Ginger, Tim is survived by his children, Arielle and Isaac and his granddaughter, Elora. Tim leaves behind his parents, Virgil and Jodi Watkins; sister, Bonnie (Watkins) Gary; brother, David Watkins, as well as his four nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday September 23, 2017 at 12pm at Palmer Lake Hall, 42 Valley Crescent St, Palmer Lake, CO.
In lieu of flowers the family has encouraged donations in Tim's name to his favorite causes, Young Life, Friends of Monument Preserve, and International Mountain Bike Association.

Dear friends and family of Tim.

Tim was the roots and wings for so many. I had the great pleasure of knowing Tim. He was a genuine soul. Tim's love and understanding we're his best traits and a real gift to me. I was a single dad and Tim was a constant source of encouragement. He was really, truly a beautiful soul. I'll miss you dearly, Tim. Thank you for showing me how I could still love and still care for everyone. Sure wish I could have thanked you more. You have no idea. God bless you, Tim.

Tim, I have countless memories of you, but one moment that still feels like yesterday, was grateful I felt the day you graciously, and without hesitation, loaned me (which of course, was a gift, not a loaner!) one of your mountain bike tires for my first mountain bike race. I took second in that race...all due to that tire, I am sure.

But, I think what I appreciated and admired most about you was your ability to love and to be willing to try at love despite previous imperfect experiences. I wish Ginger you had more time together with Ginger in this life, but seeing you happy in love, remains an inspiration to me. You were a good man, Tim. I miss you. We all miss you.

Dear Tim, thank you for being a part of my "village" growing up. I was just the bratty owner's kid at the shop where you worked for a time, but you were always so kind to me, and to everyone. Your devotion to your family was always admirable and inspiring and I will never forget you and your positive outlook. RIDE in peace, and may your soul be blessed. Your family is loved, and we will be here for them in any way we can.

Your smile will continue to light the earth long after your passing. The bike I bought from you will remain with me forever and you will be heavy on my heart when I ride it. Please excuse errors in my writing, tears are falling from my eres...

Sending heartfelt sympathies to all of Tim's family. I have such fond memories of the Virgil Watkins family from their short time in Stratton, Co. I recall a young Tim who was a delight....such a sweet smile and happy lad.

Tim had a very special spot in our heart. He worked with our son at Lewis Palmer School in the transition program. Our son had a great time working with Tim. Tim had a great smile, friendly, and always happy. As our son said "I love Tim" and we agree with him. We have great memories and will miss Tim. Our prayers and thoughts are with his family. May the comfort of knowing Tim was loved by many people bring them peace. Kim, Hank and Kyle Weinmaster

Shocked and saddened to hear about Tim's death. I bought some inventory from Balanced Rock Bike Shop when Tim closed down. As genuine a human being as I have ever known.

There are angels that walk amongst us and Tim was certainly an angel here on earth. His kindness and sincerity was the most genuine of anyone I have met and we will miss him greatly. I send prayers of peace and comfort to his family and hope that your hearts heal in time. Colette and Rich Simms
