Timothy Barrow Obituary

Timothy Barrow, age 55, passed away March 11, 2006 at Pikes Peak Hospice after a long battle with cancer that he fought courageously over the last ten years. He was born in Belleville, IL to Major Paul C. "Mike" Barrow and Magdalen T. "Megs" Barrow, on October 31, 1950. Tim is survived by the joy of his life, son Keenan P. Barrow, 11; his mother, of Colorado Springs; his brother Michael J. Barrow, of Edmonds, WA; his sister and brother-in-law Karen and Dwight Hall; nieces Lindsay Hall and Andrea Hall, nephew, Bradford Hall, all of Colorado Springs; aunt Josephine Seastrum, of Mill Creek, WA; uncle James L. Barrow, of Phoenix, AZ; and cousins around the country. He was preceded in death by his father, and his brother, Bradford P. Barrow. Tim was raised in an Air Force family and lived in many parts of the United States before the family settled in Colorado Springs. He graduated from Cheyenne Mountain High School, where he excelled in track and attended the University of Colorado, Boulder, as an Evans Scholar. Soon after college, Tim moved to Wyoming, worked in the coal and oil fields, and was a small business owner. He returned to Colorado in the early 80's working as a stock broker, automotive sales representative, and then a mortgage broker. Over the past 20 years, Tim's career was in the home mortgage industry in Denver, Salt Lake City and Colorado Springs. In his home mortgage career, Tim was most proud of his creative abilities and desire to find home financing for first-time home owners and people that might be struggling a bit. Tim found great pleasure in archeology and anthropology from his studies at the University of Colorado, and this stayed with him throughout his life with his interests in native art, antiques, reading and travel. Tim will be remembered for his optimism of life, and his sharing of lively conversation over a great meal with family and friends. His greatest enjoyment came later in life, in his love for and the raising of his son, Keenan. Tim will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Tim's family would like to thank the staff and personnel at Penrose Main Hospital for their wonderful care of Tim, and also the staff at Pikes Peak Hospice, who eased his last days and provided support and caring for his family and friends. They also send a special "thank you" to family friend Patricia Ducklow for her ongoing compassion and support during this difficult time. A Zen Buddhist memorial service for Tim, with reception following, will be held at Shove Chapel on the Colorado College campus on Friday, March 24, 2006, at 7:30pm. Donations in honor of Tim's life may be made to the Keenan Barrow Fund, c/o Ent Federal Credit Union, P.O. Box 15819, Colorado Springs, CO 80935-5819.

I feel as if I knew Tim through Karen, his sister and my long time friend. I recall Karen receiving a call at work from a thrilled Tim who had recently learned he was going to be a dad. I also recall crying in the hallway of Penrose Hospital with Karen, shortly after she learned of his cancer diagnosis. He clearly was a special guy and will be missed! My thoughts and prayers are with Megs, Keenan, and the Hall family!
