Timothy Collins Obituary

Entrepreneur, Financier, Art Collector Timothy Collins died at home in Palo Alto, CA on May 29th of complications from lung cancer. Born in Cheyenne, WY on June 8, 1940, and raised in Colorado, Tim was blessed with a rich life in CO, New York, Nevada and California. Fear and self-doubt were for- eign to Tim as relentless optimism drove his remarkable life.

Tim lost his father, was married, and became a father before his 18th birthday. He founded Collins Securities Corp. and built it to a na- tional presence and co-founded the Denver Spurs pro hockey team in his 20s. In New York City in the 60s, he financed resource ventures and was deeply involved in the art world, helping major artists including Alice Neel and Robert Smithson. In the 70s, Tim formed United Mining Corp. to re-mine the Comstock Lode in Virginia City, NV. In the 90s in San Francisco, he was a partner in several boutique investment banks. In the 2000s, he founded KleenSpeed Technologies, which developed one of the first electric racecars and won the ReFuel EV time trials at Laguna Seca Raceway in 2010, 2011 & 2012.

Tim is survived by devoted partner Laura Reyes of Palo Alto, brother Michael Collins of Co. Spgs, and children Timothy, Jr. of Denver; David of NYC; Joel of Oceanside, CA; Veronica Collins Roberts of Brooklyn, NY; KC Charette of Boca Raton, FL; and eight grand-children. A memorial will be held Sat, June 10 at 10 am in the Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs.

I met Tim through the investment business in the late 90's. We finally connected and became fast friends through driving cars on racetracks. Tim followed his own path and was able to bring others along with him. I will miss his calls and sporadic updates on his current ventures and ideas. He was a visionary and very generous person. It was a blessing to have know Tim.

I worked for him for a few years at Collins Securities. He was a force of nature, a selling hurricane. Charismatic, smart as a whip, insightful, great fun. He loved that Maserati Ghibli! Refined and raw, he is missed.

Sending sincere condolences to all of the Collins family. I remember him well from my teen years when I saw him the most. He would come to visit Leila and she always had a big party to celebrate all of you! He was a wonderful man.

I only knew Tim a short time, but the man was a FORCE. Hilarious, energetic, charming, funny, brilliant, and eternally young, he was truly larger than life and I'm grateful to have known him. He will be sorely missed but his legacy will abide.
