CPT Hockridge was the best commander I ever had. He carefully balanced the needs of his Soldiers and the needs of his mission - he always met his mission. He deeply cared for his troops and always looked out for them, always giving any trooper the benifit of the doubt. He was very well respected and loved and always will be. He placed doing what was right ahead of being popular / a true leader.

He loved his girls with all he had, always talking about them. He was always talking about how wonderful they'll turn out and that they would just take his breath away about the small things they would do. He was honored to have been their dad.

Although Tobey and I have not kept in touch since we left the Academy, I realize that owe Tobey a lot, more than I understood until I saw that he had passed away. My prayers are with Morgan and the girls, and the rest of Tobey's family.

Our lives are all the better for having known and loved Tobey. He meant so much to me, and shaped so much of who I am, and I am grateful for the time we shared, though our chosen paths diverged. From the day we met I thought of him as an angel with invisible wings, and my heart aches to know he is truly an angel now.

A magnet he bought me years ago is still on my fridge, and it sums up what he would wish for us all during this difficult time: Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you've imagined.

Tobey was a good friend and classmate. Morgan, Payton, Paige, and family, I am so sorry. Tobey and I lost contact after we graduated squadron 34 together at USAFA. He greatly supported my growth as a young Catholic and encouraged me daily through academy stress. I truly value his friendship and positive influence in my life. He will be greatly missed. Here is one more roll for my Army brother.

We knew Tobey at Fort Benning in 2009 during the Captain's Career Course. I'll always remember his smile - it was the best! Always quick to smile and laugh, that's what we remember of him. We're so sorry for your loss.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Hockridge family. Tobey was a very special part of my life and my son Nicholas' life while living in Ft. Bragg/Pope AFB. He was a mentor and an inspiration to my son, who still today uses his bible given to him by Tobey that still bears his name on the inside cover.
