My condolences to the Garcia family. I enjoyed his boxing, seeing him as a referee and knew him since the 7th grade and Boy's Club. He was a very kind person and always took the time to say hello. Our prayers are with the family. ~From Frances Espinoza and all the Espinoza family.

I first met Toby at the Boy's Club on South Tejon. It was my first day on the job as a staff member. I walked in to see this smiling, skinny 15 year old behind the desk. He was holding a scared little guy in one arm and directing a bunch of little guys with his other arm. I thought the place was out of control but after watching for a few minutes, I understood that Toby had nearly complete control, a natural with the kids.

After introducing myself, Toby said "Hi, I'm Toby Garcia and I'm in charge of the Club- just don't tell anyone. How can I help you Bob-a Loo." He continued to call me that for forty years.

One of the most cherished photos in our house taken by my wife, Renee, is that of Toby with Sugar Ray Lenard in the old boxing ring at the Club. Renee made two or three originals over the years for him. He must have spent a lot of time looking at them to wear so many out.

We played softball together in the 1980's for Cedar Heights, Travel Lodge and Donovan and Kayser. He knew Renee kept albums of photos from that era and would always ask about them or if he could see them. Although there were many of him, he seemed to enjoy more those containing other teammates, opponents, all the wives, girlfriends and children. He knew how to enjoy reliving those snapshots from the past.

When we moved a few years ago, I asked Toby if he wanted to look after all those albums. Of course he accepted. I feel it meant a great deal to him to re-connect with the people and places thru the photos from that time. All of us were important to him.

We gave those albums to him four years ago. He hugged me, kissed me on the forehead and said " I love you Bob-a-Loo."

That's my forever memory. It's too late to put the old team back together, but if I did, he would be there at second base with that big smile.

We all still have our own precious memories of Toby that we will cherish forever.

When I first Heard of Toby's passing My Heart Hurt! I haven't seen him for many years now But He was Not one you could easily Forget! He Had A heart of Gold and Loved Life! We Shared many Laughs and great talks! I considered him to be a very good friend! I' am truly Sorry to each of his Family Members!
